I think I was about 10 and built some planes and ships. Started back with a few cars in the late teens and built one every couple of years. Built a tank about 6 months ago and been going steady since then. Just had to find something that did'nt need a gloss paint job. Finally at 27 I am building them like I have always wanted to.

The first one I can remember was the Revell USS Missouri in the summer of 53 (late June or early July I believe). Turned 9 at the end of that August. Still at it and sometimes think I still can't build models any better than I did then. (Surely don't type or spell any better)

I started when I was about 7, built like a mad-man (mad-child?) until I was about 12 and then it fell by the wayside. Like most kids, I never really built very professionally. I got back into it about a year ago - now I'm 36. I'm almost finished my first kit as an adult. Being older, I have become very compulsive about modelling technique and quality. That coupled with the fact I'm building 4 kits at the same time and have 2 kids, 5 years and 6 months old, explains the enormous time it takes me to build. Great stress relief though - hiding out in the basement with my models and a beer for a couple of hours after the kids are in bed! Smile [:)]

I built a few before the age of 17 (when I joined the Navy in 1988) I got out of the Navy in 94, and started building again about a year ago. I am 33 now.

God Bless

Out of curiousity am I one of the oldest to begin to build models? I finished my first not long after my <gulp> 40th birthday! Anyone else care to share how old they were when they completed their first model?
