Who read or remembers the comic book 'Sargent Rock & his howling Commandos?'

Dude, I read Sgt. Rock in the late 50's/early 60's.

I had a few issues I purchase at a use book store in the mid 70's

I think you've got your comic book sergeants mixed up.  I'm fairly certain the howling commandos belonged to Sgt Fury.  Sergeant Rock was the top-kick of Easy co.

You're more likely to find your blue panzer in a sergeant Rock comic.  They seemed to pop up pretty much every issue.

I had a whole pile of them back in the mid 70's. I can still remember some of the stories- I had read them several times. I wish I still had them. Have they ever been reprinted, or just available in collectors stores? Comics were a part of my life when I was a kid- I'm surprised my kids have no interest in them, even when I suggest I'll buy them one. I guess the DS supercedes the imagination!

Yes! Great replies fellas! I did not realize the comics were that old, I just remembered reading them in the 80's at my friends mom's second hand store.

I had a boat load of them. Sgt Fury, Sgt Rock, Fighting Army and Fighting Marines (I think).  The art work in Fighting Marines was terrible.  Everybody looked the same!   I can't believe some of you guys paid 12 cents for them.  The last price I remember paying was 35 cents, and that would be in late 70's or very early 80's.  I tossed them eventually.

  At one time there was talk of a movie being made. Supposedly there was even script floating around.

c'mon fellas we all know his first name was SGT. LOL  man i loved those comics,my favorite story was the sniper that  shot the enemy through the scope,the shocked look on the spotters face was classic. thanks for the trip down memory lane .

I remeber them seeling Sgt Rock at news stands up to about the 90's.  Not sure if those were reprints but I favored those to ANY other comic at the time.

Oh what memories I allways saved 10cent from my weekley allounce to by the latest issue,if I remember right once a year there was an anual issue for 50 cents. Great times the 40's 50'and 60's sgt. rocks first name was Frank also was one they called Ice Cream Solder and I think one was called Gabby.  They will probably screw it up even more by getting Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller to play Rock

My fave character was Bulldozer and his MG. Yeah baby! Who could forget those classic MG sounds "Budda budda, budda......."

I also loved GI Combat. anyone remember that hilarious issue where they sunk a Japanese destroyer in their Sherman?

I liked the OSS series that was in one or the other. can't recall, but I think it was GI Combat.

Also used to pick up "Wierd War Tales" and "The Unknown Soldier" now & again... Plus, although they didn't get their own comics, the recurring characters of LT Steve Savage (The Ballooon Buster, loosely based on Frank Luke) and LT Johnny Cloud (The Navajo Ace) were a couple more of my favorites...

Never figured how Savage could keep his cowboy hat on in a SPAD though...

Then there was my arch-enemy, a French SPAD pilot named "The Hangman"... And his ssiter, "The Harpy"...

I found a website some years ago that had a bunch of the old "Enemy Ace" comics on it, but I lost the link to it long ago and can't remember what it was called.. Should done some screenshots and put 'em on disc...

I liked all those comics you guys have mentioned,, and am currently going thru my collection and catorgorizing and bagging my stash of comics.. I also really liked the Sam Glazman stories of the USS Stevens,, I found 2 graphic novels he put out on the net about his experiences.. some of the books are peices from the comics, some are new tales..

and who can forget the symbol at the end of all the stories.. " Make War, No More ",,,

I don't think they did "Make War No More" tags until the 70's..

Heh, I almost forgot... I onced served with a 1SG Rock...   Don't think he left the bunker the entire time we were in Doha...
