The last time I spent $1500 on something that needed assembly, it was a full-size car!

I'm sure it's a nice kit (and that I'd have many enjoyable hours assembling it) but I think I'd be more inclined to put that money into a good lathe, a bunch of Plastruct and Evergreen, and scratchbuild one.

Some years back I dropped a grand at Squadron in purchasing the Accurate Armor 1/35th U-boat and quayside. It will be a retirement project I'm holding off starting until the wife figures out where she finally wants to settle down at. I have seen the Dora kit for sale at a Mesa AZ hobby contest a couple years ago and she is BIG one! Sure to be a prize winner in a model contest.

The only way , is if it could be a good solid GERMAN HUNTER KILLER SUB so,s I could go after Manny . He needs to know everyone does care .I have a bottle of SCHNAPPS and no one to share it with . Really , I think that the price is a little steep for something like that . Is it sterling silver and platinum under that grey paint ? I bet it,s marketed by a jewelry store chain at that price !!          tankerbuilder

If I really wanted the thing I would find the money.

As it stands I have no interest in the subject, so I have no desire to pony up the money.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

PLUMLINE, You are right.....and  It would so far down the list you would have to so to speak dig to China to find it.

Right now, I have hard time to decide to buy $20.00 on model kit or not.  But, I was so shock that I was started slowing bought by one by one of Titanic 1/144 scales back about 2 years ago without notice how much total cost that I was spending it.

Oh boy...I was spending a lot more than $1,500.... I was bought all of 1/144 scales of the Titanic and yet start to build it for pass near 2 years..... Because I am little worried that kits able no long selling in near future. But, right now I was already started working on 1/144 scale of Titanic wreck as practicing for next Titanic 1/144 scales. Kind of worth to build a 6 feet long a ship with fiber optic to light up beautiful ship!

I bought those kits and cost:

 Titanic hull with
   2 separate propeller wings and
   brass stern stem .......................$500

Titanic Wall sets...........................$617

Titanic brass kits of window, doors. ladders, gratings
   and many many more.......................$446

Titanic funnels and lifeboats and 8 crane bases
   and all ventilators................................$300

Peter's Brass kits of Rivets hull.............$450  (Peter's kits no long selling)

Domes kit for Grand staircases............$45

Railing........................................................$100

Paints/ extra more plastic sheets.........$ Not yet buy those.

TOTAL.........................................................$2,457!!

Here goes, what kind of question is it to ask would you think twice about spending 1500 dollars on a model kit. In these times when people are losing there jobs then there homes,or having to work two jobs just to survive. Hey I have trouble thinking twice about spending 20.00 on a model kit. Now everyone situation is different some people can spend more on a model then others and that is up to them. The question should have been what would be the best way to spend 1500 dollars if you had the money. I can think of a lot of way to help people with that amount of money. The last thing would be on a model kit. It would so far down the list you would have to so to speak dig to China to find it.

I totally agree with the NO. Models have been getting way too expensive. A price like this is absurd.

Sure, I would consider it.  My wife just spent 10 grand on remodeling a bathroom.  She spends $150 every 3 months on her hair.  With that being said and as slow as I build, that kit could last me 2-3 years.  That works out to $41 a month.  That's well within my budget.

Now, will the wife by that line of thinking????

As others have said, I don't even think once about it!  I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a model kit.  For me, top end is around $150.00 to $200.00, and that includes resin.

Just launched:  Revell 1/249 U.S.S. Buckley w/ after market PE and guns.

Building: Italieri 1/35 P.T. 596 w/ Lion Roar PE.

If the kit in question was a 1:4 scale mixed media Bf109, FW190, He-111, or Bf110C then possibly maybe... but a 1/35 Dora?

Nope, not even once.

...or a 1/72 scale Zuiho.....no THAT  might be worth it,..............

Considering I recently had a blast building a $5 Airfix kit.... $1500 for a train with a cannon on top? Pass. And at $1500 it would have to be worked into my will somehow.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

$1500 for a kit?   Even more than $110 I have an issue with mostly.

In over 18 years of marriage I have yet to sleep on the couch, not going to start now. lol

And my camper is comfy but NOT that comfy! Big Smile

Ummmm.......Not gonna even look at it to begin with. Not my kinda kit. Still wouldn't spend that kinda money on a kit. There's better things to spend it on.

Yes but here's the bad news. It took about 2000 men to set it up and at least 100 to serve it. Just the crew.

DoogsATX

So...if you want to really either laugh or shake your head or find ammo to moan about how manufacturers' prices are insane...here's a link to just the figures

The Dora kit is ridiculous. But this is just stupid.

I sure would like to know if anyone actually pays that price for the figures.Hmm

crosshead

I blow $1500 fairly regularly on real guns, but a model.........no.

Though I haven't checked for a decade or more, I can't recall much worth buying in that category that doesn't approach $1,500
