Seriously.. Donate/Sell what you can... Keep what you want (within reason, and 2-300 kits isn't unreasonable), and you might just have to walk away from the rest, hard as it may seem to be to comprehend.... But there's a fine line between collecting and hoarding...

What would you do?

I would like some opinions on dealing with the situation that I currently find myself in. Any input would be appreciated.

A very close friend and fellow club member has passed away and left you his model collection and supplies. But, instead of the 500+ kit collection that you thought you would receive, it turns out to be a 10 to 12,000 kit collection with a massive amount of supplies. I have thought about this and here's what I have come up with.

KEEP: This is what I really would like to do. The guy was a very dear friend and I am honored that he thought enough of me to leave his collection to me. But, this is not practical. I will never be able to build them and the cheapest storage that I have found is $500 a month.

SELL: This is a great opportunity to make some money. But to start an online hobby shop now is not doable. I already have a business that I work 6 days a week, also storage fees come into play again. I just don't have the time.

DONATE: Club members will take about 200 kits. The LHS guy will take 100 kits, but not the whole lot. Goodwill and Habitat for humanity will take 300 kits each. So that's 900 kits gone. The VA and VFW would not take any. The Red Cross said that they "may" want 1000 kits. We'll see. It seems that no one wants any model kits. The local orphanage turned me down due to liability concerns.

DISPOSAL: Mentally this is the hardest step to take, but it may be the best option. I may just call a junk removal company to just haul it all away. 12,000 kits is about 3 tractor trailers full of kits. I'm paying $500 a month for storage and I'm going to allow for 3 months. I owe my friend that much I guess. Whatevers left after that time is going to get hauled away.

The funny thing is that I always wanted a large stash, but till you stand in a warehouse, in the middle of 12,000 model kits, you never realise what a mountain of plastic really is. It owns you. This is so tiring.
