Dont think for a minute (especially you yung-uns) that the wife isn't paying attention to your hobbytime vs time with her. She may not say anything about it right away but it will eventually come up, usually like a "bolt out of the blue".

I realize everyones relationship is different with their spouse so I cant give any specific hints except to say make sure you are paying attention to her.

I'm a marriage veteran of 45 years and still manage to get myself in trouble.

On the flip side, having a "bachelor" pad, just you and your son has its perks, no woman around to say "WE ARE NOT PUTTING A B-17 ON THE COFFEE TABLE!", "WHY ON EARTH DID YOU BUILD A FULL SIZE COCKPIT AROUND YOUR COMPUTER!" or "WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AN AIRBRUSH AT MIDNIGHT!?!?!. Single parenting, though it causes less "free" time, if you can afford it, it not half bad, especially if you were married to my ex wife..

It is only the intellect that keeps me sane; perhaps this makes me overvalue intellect against feeling

I know this is not going to go over well, but I have TOO MUCH modeling time now!  The kids are grown, and I've been on medical retirement for the last 8 yrs.  My wife is finishing up her student teaching, so I am home alone most of the day - and at night she's grading papers, doing lesson plans, etc., so even then I can go work on models as much as I'd like . . .

People tell me, "man, I'd love to have your problem - all day to do whatever I want, yada yada".  Let me tell you, it gets old very quickly!  I'm not allowed to drive anymore because of my medications, so almost ALL of my time is in the house or going for walks around the neghborhood with our dog.  There are times I look at my modeling bench, computer, TV and just don't feel like doing any of them any more!  Hard to believe, right?

Easy:

Family:  I'm single, and probably will be for life, so that part's covered.

Job:  Job provides money for hobby.

And so, I grab time where I can.  Sometimes it's early morning, before I go to work, other times, evenings after work..  This time of the year, autumn in the Northeast, it's a little of both of those.  Less time in the summer, when I'd rather be outdoors.

Rainy days are good for bench time, too.

Also, get rid of TV, you'll find you free up a lot of time.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

I am blessed with a wife who is a busy body and finds house cleaning and yard work theraputic. Yeah, I don't get it either but I darn sure accept it.

I usually build while my wife is cleaning my house, or in the kitchen making me some pot pie!

She likes all the cop drama shows and a bunch of other crap, that I just can't get into. Most evenings are spent at the bench. In the winter months, with no work, sessions go into the 2 and 3am hours.

Pot pie? Can you send me the recipe?...Big Smile Just kiddin`. My wife gets on her computer after dinner is cleaned up, as do my three teenagers so that leaves me all to my lonesome..and about three hours a night at the bench, usually.
