I used to have that problem with tamiya putty. i then moved further south (colder less humid climate) and the problem stopped.

Living in napier i was forever having issues getting the cap off or getting putty out. Now down in chch its smooth as silk and i never have issues with it.

So climate is my guess.

You would think they would find a way to make their product not shite in certain regions...

To do that they would have to have different batches for different areas and areas of lesser demand (NZ for example) would end up with a lack of supply.

My recommendation is store it in the crisper drawer of the fridge, or if you have an oldskool larder or pantry. store it in there, Keep it somewhere cool and dry (a bit like potatoes)

The gel stuff works great for gap filling. And it does not chip like putty can. If you use an accelerator, you can sand it smooth within minutes. And it can be sanded and polished to a mirror smoothness.

Carlos, don't you find the super glue too hard after using accelerator? I have always found that to be the case with Zap-A-Gap....maybe other brands are softer. What brand are you using?

I just bought some Loctite brand at Lowes recently but haven't tried it out for gap filling.

I have problems with the Green Squadron putty...the stuff dries almost on contact....as i try to spread it it becomes grainy and brittle right away...Im trying, dipping the spatula in turpentine...it becomes a slurry but still dries really fast....Im thinking of trying the Tamiya putty...any thoughts??

It seems that except for those in a certain climate the majority of us have the same issue with this putty...
