Forgive me father, for I have stashed. Again. Or rather, I've ordered something that will in all likelihood end up stashed for several months before I ever get to it.  But I've been waiting for Airfix's Swordfish with floats, and it finally came out, so I pounced on it. What can I say, I just don't have the $$s to throw at the giant Tamiya kit...

I think we all know who's to blame for this one....just sayin'

....yes and no.... Embarrassed Wink

...Because passing up that 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18C with the Legends cockpit for $38 with shipping is a crime.

Or that 1/48 Hasegawa F-22.  Did I need it?  For $26 with shipping...yes, I did.

What about that Fine Molds 1/48 X-wing that normally goes for $75+??  For $52 with shipping it was hard to say no.

Ha!  Its mostly Ebay.  Although that F-22 was found on some Auto/Marine store's website.  Weird.  I also got an Italeri 1/48 MV-22 for $30.50 with S/H from some automotive store.

Hi there everyone  well reguarding the topic I'v got a strange way of thinking when it comes too stashing kits.My hobby has tooken over half of my basement and have 3 workbenches so that being said I figured on having 100-200 kits per bench that way there is always something going on.Or I'm nuts.

Greymack;

That is a good start, I'd say.Yes

Those benches, and re-stocking ideas, are excellent plans, when

it comes to stashing kits, 100's are nice round numbers.YesYes

I bought a nice starter chunk of my stash from an estate sale of

a gentleman who ended up with 10's of thousands of kits, and another guy

who sold off a smaller collection of about 5,000 kits. Mostly old Monogram

stuff, and I still love every one of them like my first styrene kit.

You are in good company Mack, around these parts, you are quite a normal guy.Cool

Happy stashing!!!YesYesYes

I think that all of the reasons that you listed are valid, especially how quickly models do come on and off of the market.  I think that another reason for "stashing" models is that buying a model that you like but don't yet have the skill/confidence yet to build.

That way it gives one something to look forward to.  Plus it doesn't hurt to have "extra" kits to work on, on a rainy day.

Chris,

Like you and DJinFlorida my "stash" is pretty small.  I currently only have 12 kits total.  The first one that I put together after a LONG absence was a Revell 1:72 Skill Level 1 i.e. a Snap Tite kit.  I have 7 cars and 5 aircraft's.  My next build is going to be the AMT 2009 Chevy Corvette Coupe.  I will also probably be purchasing the Eduard PE parts for the SR-71 Blackbird.

I've been lucky in that the HHV (Helping Hospitalized Veterans) provide Veterans with various types of craft kits, they are woodcraft, leathercraft, and scale models.  That is one wood or plastic scale model and one leathercraft kit.

They don't supply paint or glue, just the kit.  The leathercraft kits do come with lacing material and the woodcraft kits do come with a small container (or two or three) of white glue.

I would say that having to buy my own glue and paint is agreeable to being able to go in and pick out my own model.  As well as giving me the opportunity to rebuild my stash.

I'm also lucky in that my GF is supportive of my getting back into model building, and she purchased Monogram's SR-71 Blackbird for me as an early birthday present.  As I said I'm just waiting on getting the PE parts before I start in on it.
