I like both of the badges!

Is there still room for a 3rd one? I'm about 50% done with mine (it'll look similar to the 1943 badge when finished). If not, maybe we could use it for a possible '45 GB...

I do like that badge idea wayne, it is different. At first I thought it might be awkward for people to fit in with their other badges. But I suppose they could add it to the sig separately, or if they have their badges like you and stik, they could put it at the top or bottom.

I know its different to the badges Sub has gone with in the past. But what do the group thing about giving a choice of both.

some badges stand out by color and others stand out by shape. tried something fifferent with this one, it is already scaled for badge size and the pictures, which can;t really be seen show a significant event in each month: anzio, korsun pocket,  impha, pacific carrier raids, monte cassini, ld-day, V-1s over london, warsaw uprising, market garden bulge, leyte gulf, B-29 raids on japan, battle of the bulge.

Well, I hope I don't disappoint. I really need to look further into Paint.net, I am sure theres a lot more can be done with it. But this is what I have got.

SS and myself have agreed to kick this off tomorrow night. I know we are hosting this GB, but I don't see it as ours, more that it belongs to the group in lieu of Sub's absence. I think Sub's original format is as good as it can be, so I don't think we need to tinker with it. But if anyone does have any suggestions, and if Sub is ok with using this thread as a sounding board rather than the build thread, then I am happy to hear any suggestions.

chris, the past GB's have ran through out the year in question, starting on Jan 1st. I think the intention is to stick with that.

I have just finished my He 111 this afternoon, so going to finish off the badge tonight.

I agree with stik Bish!  I think it looks spot on!  I love it.  Very classy, but still sexy!  Looks like a winner to me!

Ok, will check that out.

wayne, if you could knock one up as well, that would be great.

that would be knock one OUT over here. when a woman gets pregnant, especially unintended, she is knocked up. then again i understand "i'll pick you up in the morning" has a different meaning over there.

Bish, here in place of knock the term rub is used I think... you are the badge creator, I am merely offering suggestions. But yes I think she looks good and is in keeping with the spirit of the two previous badges.

BTW, I love seeing those Tyranosaurs in F-14 Badges that you came up with for us floating around here now!

knock one out could come anywhere but you will hear "he knocked one out of the park" meaning did a great job. it refers to a baseball being out into the stands for a home run. "he threw me a curve" (baseball pitch) is like "he bowled me a gogglelly."

and how do you use the term "*** the pitch?"

wayne, it sorts of means the same here as well, except we would say knocked her up. Now, knock one out, mmm, now how do I explain that. Lets say its similar, but without a woman on the other end Whistling

So, stik, I take it I can progress with the badge as is.

I realised what I was doing wrong, wasn't setting the tolerance correctly, I wish I had known that several badges ago. O well, better late than never. This is how far I have got so far. Before I add the lettering and a border, I thought I would see what you guys think.

Ye, that's what I am using. When I try to make the white background transparent, it still leaves a thin stip around the edge. In the past I have been able to hind it, but theres to much on this, I just can't remove the image cleanly from the background.

I have been messing around with the middle for a badge, but nothing decent yet, I just can't seem to remove the image from the background properly. If anyone else can come up with something, that would be great, in the meantime, I will keep working on it.

Did'nt Mr. Vargas also do some drawings for PLAYBOY too. His name sounds familiar from somewhere besides his WW2 drawings

Ok, found this one and straight away it felt right. I think its appropriate seeing as its 1944, I can leave out the writing if you like. And its not to saucy.

If you do an image search for pin up art, vargas girl, etc. you will find many suitable (and some not so FSM suitable) images...

Sounds like this is a go then. Now we just need a badge. I think we should stick with the nose art theme Sub has used. I don't think the pin ups were from WW2 but more modern images replicating WW2 pin up's, does anyone know where they come from. I will have a go at a badge, but not sure I can do it to the same standard as Sub did, so if anyone else things they can do a decent one, it would be much appreciated.

Definitely in for '44.  I still have to finish up my '43 build, but it's coming along.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.
