To gather all of the information here in one spot( and somebody correct me if I get anything wrong). We've got ourselves a Mike Thompson who is wheel chair bound, a member of the CAF and last place of residence was in Arnes, Iowa. I'd say that's enough to get started with a contact of some sort. The next step is to go somewhere with this information. I could try to contact the CAF and see if there's a guy on the books that fits this description. Yays or nays?

Sounds like a course of action worthy of detective Hercule PoirotHmmBig SmileYes

Mike is a nice guy.  Despite being wheelchair bound, he doesnt seem to let it slow him down and takes it all in his stride.  He always brightened up these pages and had some memorable spats with a couple of loudmouths over the years.

It was Ames, Iowa.  Hans got flooded out a couple of years ago and then a$$hole looters cleaned out his stash, among other valuables.  I sent him a couple of kits to get his stash started again.  Hope he is ok and will grace these pages again soon.

That sounds like the weather related mishap I originally posted about. Thanks for the memory jog.

I notice Hans' profile states "I'm also an active member of the CAF and belong to the Great Plains Wing of the CAF, home of the P-51D "Gunfighter"..."

If someone knows his actual name, perhaps they might have some word?

hkshooter

The place became to much to deal with and I left right before the "douche". And honestly I rarely ever pop in now. When I do I can see the place is a ghost of it's former self. Used to couldn't keep up with it, now stuff stays on the front page for days.

I've been thinking about Hans for a few weeks and thought I'd pop in to see if he were around. Wherever he is I hope all is well with him.

O, I don't know, the site seems to have gotten busier and busier as the year has gone on. Sure there can be some quiet days, but mostly it seems busy. I posted something tonight and 4 hours later it was on page 3. Ok, that's just tonight, but that sounds like busy.

And I think the site is much better since the clear out. A few of those who left, whether voluntary or not, joined another site and within a few weeks there were problems there and at least one was banned. And that person joined another site and went from there as well. And these sites don't have the commercial aspect that this one does, so it would suggest to me that the problem was never with the site.

Anyway, we have had lots of new members this year. Sure, not all stick around, that's the nature of the beast, but many have and have fitted right in.

Hopefully Hans will be back soon, or at the very least someone will be able to get in touch with him.

At this time, I'm inclined to believe Hans hasn't posted because he doesn't have internet access.

LOL @ pyrman

I just assumed, wrongly it seems (assumption being the mother of all F'ups) that he, "disappeared" at about the same time as some other former members that I have not seen since I resurfaced here. Though I must admit Hans was always much milder, wiser and no where near as "out spoken".

The guys who really needed to get the boot did.  The forums are better off.  Like you said Hans wasn't one of the instigators.

Start a Monogram group build with the stipulation that you can't use ANY aftermarket parts and I predict he'll come screaming back!

I have read some of his posts and they were great!  Anyone who loves Monogram is a friend of mine!  Would love to see him back.

His last post was in jan, a couple of months after all that happened. Though he had not been posting as much in the previous couple of months.

The "Hammer", a fellow Hawkeye (although a transplant from Texas) has been AWOL for a while now.  Not sure why he decided to check out for good but he was tired of all the drama (as many of us were).  Who knows, perhaps he will return for MM3!

Well, some chick, I think her name's Simone, in my Economics class said: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Hans von Hammer pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious. Whistling

He was a sort of "mentor" to me and because of that , his sense of humor and overall helpfulness I miss him as well.

Wasn't there some sort of weather related mishap in his area about the time he dropped off the face of the earth?

Hans was definitely instrumental in convincing me to return to practicing the art of "gizmology" .

Yeah, all joking aside Hans was a good guy. Didn't always agree with him but I often learned something from what he had to say.

I know he's had some health problem in the past that's kept him fairly immobile so I hope he's ok. He's a great guy, lots of funny banter and an encyclopedia of all things CAF and Monogram.
