Mountaineer2012

I've had a few builds go south on me. I did an F-18 with Blue Angels paint scheme not long ago. Had a lot of problems with the landing gear on that one, but otherwise, it turned out OK.

There are 2 that really stick out for just horrible builds. The first was a Saturn V rocket. Assembly wasn't bad, but you would be surprised at how many problems I ran into when painting the stupid thing. I finally finished it, but the paint job was terrible. The other build was an F-15 I started a couple years ago. It was just an all around terrible build. Pieces wouldn't stay together, and no matter how much I tried to get the fit right, I had gaps you could drive a semi through, the list goes on. I put that one on the sidelines and haven't touched it since.

Not my disaster but a mate . he won class  champ at IPMS UK nationals  , after the show he was packing up and walking to the car  in the dark , a gust of wind blew the model away and it was smashed. He never even bothered to search for it . Just shrugged his shoulders and carried on  walking to the car.   ,

I usually sideline kits that give me fits, I build so darn slow that I forget the problem and move on. Although I do remember a Dragon scud launch truck and missle way back in the early 90's that was a real booger..... best $40 I ever smashed, have had more tiraids since but with seasoning and patience my stash only has a few kits that will just have to wait. Always need fodder for the really cool dioramas I never seem to build LOL.

I've had a jinx kit.

The Glencoe Mars Liner.

The first kit had 6 left sides to the landing legs instead of 3 left and 3 rights. Also one of the three hull sides was to warped to use.

The second kit I really messed up gluing the three piece hull together. I used rubber bands to hold them together and the next day realized I hadn't lined them up properly. Two of the sides cracked when I tried to break them apart and try again.

The third kit was beautifully completed (at least to me it was). Within a week I accidently knock it off a shelf and it hit nose down onto the floor. The needle like nose shattered and one of the seams along the body split open. I had worked so hard on this thing to eliminate seams and blend in the needle nose with the body of the ship.

The fourth kit will never happen. I give up!!!
