KillinMeSmalls

I'm still rather fresh in the hobby so I don't have quite a stash as some of you. I actually feel I'm one of those guys that wants to build something different each time. I can also see how one may build multiple of the same subject and/or kit because they really like that particular subject or enjoy the quality of the kit. I do however have two spitfires, but they are different scale and manufacturer. 1/32 ROG, and 1/72 Airfix. I can see myself building more Huey's though (my fav. heli from my fav. conflict in American history)

I have yet to build a Huey. Too many memories, I suspect.

Multiple kits in my collection use to be F-4 Phantoms but lately they're been over taken by Intruders  1 ea Trumpeter A-6A and A-6E ditto with the Hobbyboss 1/48 kits. 2 Revell/Monogram A-6E's, EA-6A and Ea-6B and a couple of 1/72 A-6A's.

Add to that an unexplain sudden interest in Skyhawks with the Trumpeter A-4E and A-4M and will probably be ordering another Trumpeter A-4E this weekend, even after scoring a great deal this morning at a local model club swap meet where I bought the 1/32 Hasegawa TA-4 (which I have been looking for for some time now) also included in the box was the Hasegawa 1/32 A-4E for $35. Then I have several of the Hasegawa 1/48 A-4's and a Classic Airframe TA-4 to round off that line of aircraft.

So why the heck am I'm wrapped up working on a ship kit right now Hmm

Starting to get back into the swing of the forums after some major life things, and saw this post. Heck yeah I have more then one of the same kit! The main reason, like just about everyone has mentioned...different variants. For example I have like 3 1/72 B-47's and U-2's. I work for the National Weather Service now so I plan on trying to do a bomber and NOAA version of the B-47 and the U-2, I'll try to do a NASA version! 2 B-17's, 2 B-24's, 2 B-29's, 4 F-111's, 2 AT-6's, the list goes on. Don't get me started on the 1/47 scale C-47! I've built 4 and have 3 still in the stash! I know some of the German plane builders have MANY kits of the 109 and 190's. They had a lot of variants you can build.....and they are just nice looking planes! :) Eagle90

After reading some of these replys you can get to feel so inadequate.

I have a couple P-39s, F-15s, F-101B, Rf-101Cs, P-26s, M-113s, anf F-106s.   After that it's only singles.  How will I ever make up for this social disgrace?

Looking at my stash and completed models, my multiples fixation is WWII Jeeps.

Currently, I have two Tamiya Jeeps, one built out of box, and one converted to a British SAS desert jeep, using spare parts, figures jerry cans and weapons from a broken DML SAS jeep kit. I also have a DML SAS jeep kit that survived intact and was completed. Add to that two Italeri ambulance jeeps, one from about 20 years ago, and the other the D-day anniversary re-pop.

And finally, a Tamiya Ford GPA amphibious jeep, built out of box, for a total of six jeeps.

I think it's mostly because I don't have a lot of shelf space for kits, and at 1/35 scale, the jeeps have plenty of detail and are interesting to look at.

Outside of that, the other multiple model that sticks out is the Starship Enterprise kits in my stash. Two Enterprise Refit models in 1/1000 scale, two Original Series models in 1/1000 scale, and 1 big, honkin' 1/350 scale Refit kit.

Great question.

When I was a younger modeler I used to do this---try to complete each mark or variant of a particular variant or hull. However, as I have continued in the hobby, simple space and time considerations have made that goal unrealistic. I tend to focus on the "major" variants--Panther D, A, G, one of each; I have an early and late Hummel. I have a few StuGs, but have only one "early" B, and won't bother with the A or C, nor will I bother doing an F or F8. Just too similar to other marks.

Generally after I do one variant of one kind, I'll move on. But I DO do occasional "repeats" of my favorites, like the Jagdtiger or--in muscle cars, I have two '71 Mustang Mach 1's and two '71 Road Runners.

murph

I have built 20 F-86 Sabres (all but one in RCAF markings) in 48th and 32nd scale.  I have another 8 or so in 72nd, 48th and 32nd scale.  My plan is to build one Sabre that represented each squadron in the RCAF's 1 Air Division in Europe in the 50's and 60's.  There were 12 squadrons in four wings.  The only squadron I haven't properly represented is 427 Sqn.  So far in this project I've built:

1 Wing

410 - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

439 - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

441 - 32nd Hasegawa - 3 color camo

2 Wing

416 - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

421 - 32nd Italeri - NMF - marked as aircraft in which my uncle was killed in June 1953

430 - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

3 Wing

413 - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

427 - not done but will be 32nd Kinetic with 3 color camo

434 - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

4 Wing

414 - 32nd Hasegawa - NMF

422 - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

444 - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

I've also built:

401 Sqn - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

438 Sqn - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

Golden Hawks - 32nd Hasegawa - Alclad Gold

1955 Slylancers Team - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

1967 NATO Guynemer Trophy Winners - 48th Haswgawa - 3 color camo

421 Sqn - 48th Hasegawa - NMF - 1954 markings

434 Sqn - 48th Hawgawa - NMF - as marked when my uncle was assigned to that Sqn in 1952

Canadair Sabre #1000 - 48th Academy - NMF - presented to S/L Eric Smith who flew this while CFI at CFB Chatham in the early 50's after returning from service with USAF in Korea

F-86F-40 - 48th Hasegawa - NMF in JASDF markings

Other than my planned 32nd scale 427 Sqn build, I plan to do Kinetic's 32nd scale Sabre as 421 Sqn RCAF's flagship, a Canadair Sabre 6 with fuselage codes "RCAF 421".

I also plan to do the following builds:

1957 Skylancers Team - 48 Hasegawa - 3 color camo

U.S.A.F. F-86F-30 - 48th Academy - NMF

R.A.F. Sabre 4 - 48th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

Luftwaffe Sabre 6 - 4th Hasegawa - 3 color camo

The remaining kits that I have will be built, painted and marked as I build.

I also have a bunch of CF-104 Starfighters.  I've built the following:

1 Canadian Air Division - 32nd Revell - overall green

421 Sqn - 48th Hasegawa - 'Coke Botte markings

439 Sqn - 48th Revell - 1983 Tiger Meet markings

441 Sqn - 48th Hasegawa - late 'Checkerbird' markings

1 Canadian Air Division - 48th Revell - thee color varigated camo

R.C.A.F. CF-104D - 48th Hasegawa - NMF

I have the 32nd Italeri and three other 48th Hasegawa CF-104's and I have designated projects for them.

I have four F-101 Revell Voodoo's and a bunch of Hobbycraft CF-100 Canucks that I plan to build up (or have built) in RCAF markings.  I also have a few 48th scale Hornets (Revellogram / Hobbyboss / Hasegawa) to build in RCAF markings to go along with the two 48th Hornets (Revellogram and Hasegawa) I've built to represent 409 Sqn's reactivation scheme (Nightmare 01) and the 50 Years of NORAD airshow aircraft.

Most of the kits I have, have been, or will be, built to honour the RCAF's post war history and legacy.  Some are easy kits to build (48th Hasegawa Sabres and Starfighters) while others are a PITA (48th Revellogram CF-104 and 48th Hobbycraft CF-100).  I buy multiples to complete my dedication project and with my retirement just around the corner, I should have a bit more free time to get these projects done.

Mike

I've got a few duplicates.  For the most part, they show different paint schemes.  I have 2:

Tamiya A6M2 Zeros.

Eduard Bf-109Es.

Monogram P-61s (one is only a fuselage after a cat attack).

Monogram P-39s.

I plan to do more P-39s, because I like the shape.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

I have a few duplicates, but most of them are of different versions, like the Classic Airframes and Airfix Canberra/B-57 families.  (Although the B-57 really isn't a Canberra.)  If a kit maker releases better kits of them, I will most likely buy them as well.

I did binge buy Nitto MaK kits when they were reissued in the early 2000s, as the originals had become scarce collector's items.  I bought pretty much everything, including kits I already had as well as the ones I thought were too ugly to buy the first time around.  Using a variation on the tasty taco analogy, I enjoyed these kits the first time, so I wanted to try the ones I didn't buy.  No regrets there.

But that is the exception rather than the rule for me.

I really do not do this, but did with two Shermans. I am finishing an M4 direct vision and recently bought a M4A1 Sherman. They look different since the A1 has a rounded, cast hull.

I have six of the Academy P-40b kits in my closet. I've made no secret of the fact that I build models for a 3-D airwar game I've played for decades. Back when that kit was first released a friend and I were in a local hobby shop and noticed they had one. We went to the owner and said we'd like to special-order 20 of them. He asked why and I explained about the game. I needed one for Flying Tigers, one for US Pacific, one for Britain, one for British North Africa and one for Russian. He said "That's only five." I replied that I couldn't expect a potential wingman to have his own, could I?

He said "Okay, that's ten. Why twenty?"

My friend replied "What if Steve doesn't show up one night?"

I've given away three of them over the years, and started building but never finished the fourth. Still have six left.

The only kits I have duplicates of are the Days of Thunder City Chevrolet and Mello Yello cars (I plan on using the City Chevrolet to create Cole Trickles Superflo car and the Mello Yello car to create Rowdy Burns Exxon car).

I also have duplicates of the Polar Lights C-57D Forbidden Planet flying saucer, but one is the standard and the other is the deluxe kit w/ the lighting.

Currently Working On - DeAgostini Millennium Falcon, 1/16 MPC General Lee, Moebius Bride of Frankenstein

Next Up - Hobby Boss 1/350 USS Arizona, 1/24 Aoshima BTTF DeLorean, 1/25 Polar Lights BTTF part III DeLorean Mark IV

Being how so many different real-life versions and "ausfrungs" are built upon the same existing chassis and how there are often only minor differences between them, I would say that it's pretty much a given that any serious modeler would have to do this. I've got to have at least two dozen or more Pz IV chassis vehicles built, and a dozen Tiger types, etc.

I've even built the same muscle car in different decals or color options or motor options; one with a .383, and the other having a 440 for example. You can really go nuts in that regard.

I have a bunch of the same models:

3 x Tamiya Hetzer

2 x Tamiya Jagdpanther

2 x Tamiya Panther and 1 x Dragon Panther

3 x Tamiya Tiger

2 x Tamiya King Tiger

2 x Hasegawa F-4 Showtime

2 x Hasegawa Ju-87 G2

The reason is I'd like to paint and detail them differently.
