Server space. It would take Terabits to hold all the pics for years, especially pic heavy posts.

I figured it would be somthing like that. Or the risk of a virus getting into the system. But as i say, i wasn't really sure.

I still post here fairly regularly. Nothing like what I was doing before all the big change took place. Stuff here is still either broken or half working but hey, I aint paying for it so I don't think I've just too many griping rights. I've got plenty of friends here and the community is helpful and seems to get along pretty well with each other so I see no reason to just "up and leave".

Facebook seems to have taken some of the folks that were here away and personally I don't see the draw but that's just me and I don't really like Facebook anyways.

If you have a modern version of MS Office, then you already have a terrabyte of online storage with Onedrive.  Using it is simplicity itself.

If you haven't already done so, give it a whirl.  It literally changed my online life.  It used to be such a pain in the *** to post pics with ImageShack, etc.  Now I snap photos, plug the camera into the computer and the pics are all automatically uploaded into the cloud, where I can create embedding links of various sizes.

Plus, you can store your documents there as well.  I run my whole company from OneDrive and I can access all of tmy documents from anywhere I happen to be, even on my phone.

JM, Can you post images here using Onedrive, or just links to the images?

Images.  And when you upload them (its all automatic once you plug in your camera), it will sort them by month within that location so everything is not being dumped into one gigantic folder.

Here's the interior of my very first build back in March or so.  A Warhammer 40k Valkyrie.

Yes, my laptop has onedrive, but I have not activated the cloud feature, nor used it for image hosting beyond the laptop itself. I was just curious if you posted the links to the image or image itself here. Obviously you can post the image. I am fed up to my eyebrows with Photobucket at times, so onedrive sounds like a great option.  Although the PB app on my phone and camera on the phone have their better points also...

OneDrive also has an app for your smartphone. I take pics at work all the time on my phone and instantly upload them to my OneDrive which is then pretty much available on any pc I am logged into the program on.

Well, I was an active member here from 2003-2005, then checked in periodically as I had to pack up the hobby after 2005. My last post was somewhere around 07' and I totally got away from the hobby until a few months ago. I rejoined here only to find crickets. This place used to be a vibriant board full of really good people with lots of talent. I learned quickly and this sight and ARC were my go to boards to share my ideas and builds and get feed back. I rarely come here because it is so dead feeling. I can post something and it may be days before someone replies. In the old days, I could ask a question and within minutes have a decent answer. I do remember the OFF TOPIC section getting sideways a few times due to politics and religion, but it usually calmed down on its own. Now, I visit here when I'm bore, because its mostly boring here as well as other forums I'm a part of. Sadly, the real action is taking place in Facebook groups. At first, I loathed the format, but now the FB groups are my goto for modeling tips. Almost instant feedback, pics are super easy to upload and share, no more quirky spam filled Photobucket, or pay sites to host your pics. I can be sitting at my bench working on something, get stumped, whip out my phone, snap a pic, share it to the group with a few simple clicks, and have problem solved by some talented people. Thats the way it used to be on here. Not anymore.

As far as the logging in I have no problems with that. The crickets.....I have experienced. It's not as bad as Scale Auto in terms of response but it's close. There are fewer people here that I know as opposed to 5 years ago. The format is not as friendly as it was but what bothers me is the oversized photos after posting them in the PM's that make it really hard to illustrate what a person is talking about from one member to another. If a photo size works in the mainstream forums here then it should work in the PM's as well. Then there the titles. If I type anything with a symbol in the title of a thread (quotation mark, dash, etc.) it winds up as whatever symbol and looks all jacked up after posting. There's more but those are just two examples. It's almost like............that's "good enough" I guess. It also it feels like this forum has been abandoned by the admins because you'll see on alot of other forums that the admins are active participants in not only monitoring but posting as well. At least when Tim was here he got involved in posting and started things like FSM ran group builds. Not trying to say that Aaron is a bad guy but it seems like FSM has him busy with other things thus making the forums less of a priority. It does show in the attendance as well as particpation as a whole at any given point here I can tell you that.

I am one of those that has been MIA for the last few years. My main reason is because I have moved too far into the country to get decent internet access. Cellular data consumption is spotty, too. I have let go my laptop and now use my iPad. I have better luck with it.

But the background is very bright now and strains my eyes on this site.

Glad to see a lot of the old timers still here, though.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Same with me. This place was hoppin' back in the day. When I came back I couldn't login with my user name, even though old threads were still there, I was listed as anonomous. When I tried to just register new, it wouldn't let me use the old name (ausf) since there was already a member (me). I tried going the customer service route, but got no response whatsoever.

If you don't mind, what FB groups are you referring too?

I tried going the customer service route, but got no response  whatsoever.

Thats what I'm talking about right there. This forum doesn't carry the priority that it used to which is really too bad.

The day I'm forced to use facebook for my modeling fix is the day I....well I just hope I'm dead by then.

Most modeling forums are suffering from lack of usage across the boards. Once upon a time, if you missed a day of reading posts, it could take hours to catch back up. Today, if you miss a week, the first page will still have posts you read last week and maybe 3-4 new posts, maybe.

I really find face book modeling sites to be pretty good. I've joined or been added to several different IPMS and AMPS club pages, the IPMS USA page, and model pages that are genre specific like Vietnam, Korean War and WW2 Pacific Theater armor modeling.

One of the benefits to face book pages is that you do not need to have separate log in IDs for each page. You can turn on and off notifications. You can block folks you don't want to interact with and conversely, add members as friends.

Another benefit is that you can snap photos of your models with your smart phone and upload them right to face book. No need to upload them to a hosting site and then link them to your post.

Well I've been using the forum for a number of  years and though things may have slowed down; people always respond to my questions in a timely manner And with constructive criticism unlike some forums that attempt to denigrate the person whenever possible, Thanks to all my modeling friends out there. Corny though it may sound, you're like family  in many ways Thanks guys

I'm one of the guys who has been here since almost the beginning. Have gone through all the changes and revamping of the site. Have seen people come and go. Still enjoy coming here to talk models with my friends who I've never met. Have tried other sites some big some small. Still have one or two I'm a member of but this one just feels right. John

Straight from OneDrive.  Click the image you want to display.  At the top, you'll see an option to embed.  Once you click on that, along the right hand side you'll have a drop down menu for the size you want to embed, I usually pick medium.

Then just rick click and copy the url that's created and post as an image in a forum.

I will say that one of the things I like about this forum software is the My Discussions feature.  Makes it easy to remember where you were posting.

Tempest, Bish,

I was reading through all the comments and was getting really depressed about the state of this forum. Then I read both of your posts and felt a lot better. You both have expressed the same feelings I have about this site and the members who post here. I will continue to stop in as often as possible until they so to speak, close the doors...
