This is a really nice site for scale models I have been on here since 2014 or so  my only gripe is trying to post pictures why can't it be like other sites where you can just get them from your comp. Or paste them to your post.

I couldn’t agree more.  It’s a pain in the balls to post pictures here.

Every other model site that I have been on over the past 15 years or so requires you to have an image hosting site for your photos. The only exception to that is Scalemates.

The reason you can't is simple - it costs Kalmbach $$$s to host pictures. When it comes from your computer, it has to be stored somewhere on someone's server to be displayed, called 'hosting'. This, and many other websites these days are no longer providing this hosting space to site users for free. It costs them actual factual money to do this, and it's not pocket change. Thus, you are required to upload the photo somewhere that either does offer the hosting service for free with severe limits/advertising, or pay for hosting it yourself somewhere, and then provide a link to it so others can see it. The days of getting a free ride just for being on the internet are ending/have ended.

It's not. It's quite simple.

It will get simple for me.  Like most things I will look back and wonder why I had such trouble.  It’s only hard now because I’m a tech moron.  I did successfully post my first picture yesterday so that’s a small victory.

I have to agree with GM. It's not all that difficult.

Yeh, you'll quickly get the knack of it.

I have not figured out how to post photos from my mobile, but who's mobile these days?

I've only used a PC once on this site. Always use my phone. Take photos with it then post them via imgur.

What hosting site do you use, Bill?

Same here, i don't get why people single out FSM, i have not seen the same gripe on other sites. And i find it much easier here than i do on SPAM or Britmodeller.

Part of the problem is that the FSM forums have so many different forums.  Many folks just look at the top of the list and try one of the first forums, and if it works, just stay in that forum.  But way down, near the bottom of the list, is a section of forums called

Feedback, Help and Testing

and in that section is a forum

Forum Technical Assistance

Because the process is a bit more involved than with other big buck sites, threads on how to post pictures are common threads.  Go to that site and search down at older threads.  If you don't see any help there, then start a thread asking for help posting pictures.  Personally I think this forum needs to be at the top of the list of forurms.

What Don said, l personally found the information and help there very useful. It's not always straight forward I had to try a number of sights at first. Prefer to use my phone that in itself can be an issue.

This is not a big issue IF one knows how to link images. Sites like photobucket etc are now charging for usage, In this case I would create a wordpress or site123 or Tribe.so page just for photo storage. Mind you even these sites have limits approx 1000 images.

It's a good idea though. I've opened plenty of photoshare images posted here, and then scrolled through the album they are in. Whew!

Once you get the knack, it's not too difficult to post pictures. I use Imgur to host my pictures. It is a bit klutzy but it's free.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Part of IPMS. I think it stands for Scale Plastic Aircraft Modelers, although the scope seems to be broader.

Somewhat easier here, at least for single images. But when posting multiple images I find it much easier to do on SPAM than on here due to the way that FSM interacts with my iPad.

No, SPAM is not affiliated with IPMS. Although some folks there are active in IPMS here or there. Yes the A does stand for aircraft, but all genres on modeling are welcome and indulged in. Lots of Autos, Armor, Aquatic modeling found there too.

Its a smaller group of active members there, but a bit more international percentage wise, with a good EU block of members.

No worries. Most IPMS chapters have their own websites.

Photobucket always charged for usage.  Their free account got you a certain amount of space, and if you wanted more, you paid for a subscription.  I started out with their free account, for example, and then went to their basic subscription ($49.99 a year).  That was up until their disastrous decision to force all subscribers to a $499 a year subscription (which they have since abandoned, by the way).

I use Postimage now, which also has a free account.  I noticed within the past two weeks that they are now advertising paid subscriptions, for more storage, and no ads.

In any case, in bringing up charging, you have hit on the basic reason this or any forum doesn't allow uploading the files themselves-there is a cost to the storage space.

A forum that allows its users to upload or attach files to their posts likely has a low cost to allowing those files to be added.  It may reach a point where the cost becomes too great, and then the owners will likely change their minds about allowing uploads.

And as far as the process goes, it's not hard at all.  Cut and paste a link or links into your post.

The only additional piece is to edit the text string, to avoid the minor bug in Kalmbach's webpages, in which it underlines all text that follows the image. It wasn't always that way, but it's a minor issue.

Anyway, I guess we all have different tolerances for things like this.
