I'd grab the thumb-drive with all the photos of the last 100 models I've built.

"Don't do no cloud....'

But to properly answer the question...probably my pretty Marianne....

(Mirage 1/48 Halberstadt CL.II)

Of the many challenging projects I've tackled over the years, it's one of the ones that -- almost shockingly -- came out close to 100% the way I imagined it, at the start. That doesn't seem to happen very often!

If my house was aflame, which model on the shelf would I attempt to save? Not a single one. On the shelf are many model that I have worked very hard to assemble and detail, but in an emergency like a house fire, for me, they cease to have value. However, I would make every effort to save my stash. The unassembled kits would certainly have greater value to me that those models already sitting on the shelf.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I'd grab my Soleil Royale.  It is a Heller 1:96 French ship-of-the line.  Big model, three masts plus sprit mass with lots of rigging.  This is a multi-year project that I only work on ocassionally.  Hull is complete, lower masts in place, bowsprit and mast rigged, and working on foremast rigging.

Hi Ya'll;

I would probably grab my Paper Models of the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm on the way out the door. I have a connection to that day that is personal. I was there when it happened! Plus, it took to many years for someone to finally make them, Paper or otherwise! And they aren't built yet!

If the fire doesn't happen before the end of this month, it'll be something I've been saving for for quite a while and will be purchasing soon for myself for my 50th birthday: Trumpeter's 1/16 M1A2 SEP.

Otherwise, it would be Kagero's 1/32 F5 Tiger II only because it means more to TB than it does to me...

Living SoCal, I've been evacuated a few times due to wildfires and never thought to take any models.  Its a tough question though.  Maybe my P-51d airfield dio.

Thanks,

John

First the dogs, then definitely the Akagi. I've spent so much on it I could have bought it 3 or 4 times over. After that it there's time, the rest of the stash, just toss them out the window.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hope it never happens to ANYONE however as said ya never know.

Wife, dogs, cats, truck keys and my fat ***....while I will profess to love my stash of built and unbuilt models more than anything the actual truth is NOTHING is more importantto ME than the list above.

we're modelers it's what we do

I'd grab something from the stash. Get something out of it at least. Completed models don't do much for me.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

In the odd confines of this situation, I have the 1/16 scale full RC Tamiya Tiger I tank. I would be able to sell it and replace many items with the amount of money the unbuilt kit is worth.

Many thanks.

I had the old Rareplanes vac kit in 1/72, never dreaming that any actual manufacturer would ever release it as an injection-molded kit. Then I had just about finished the Mirage kit when WNW announced a 1/32 version...but by that time the 'Halberstadt bug' was largely out of my system.

Of course, now that WNW has closed up shop, I wish I'd bitten. Big Smile

Greg, that Halberstadt is gorgeous.

As for me, I'd just grab one large unbuilt kit to keep me occupied while the insurance people worked out how little they were going to pay me.  Maybe this guy:

I used to find it unthinkable to lose the OOP stuff, but now not so much.  I have fewer years ahead of me than behind me, so it would be a unique opportunity for a "fresh start".

That's easy. I would grab my 1/48 B-29 finished in BMF.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

If I had a few minutes, I would have to go down in the lower level and bring up my 1/350 model of my Dad's WW2 cruiser and the plank owner's certicate.  If I didn't have time, I would just grab my Dragon kit of the Pzkfw III Aust N that won Best armor award a few years ago that is at front door.  I have so many good kits, I would just start over, make sure my wife and cats are safe is the main thing.  The models are just objects.

And that my friends is why I have speciality insurance for my guns, die-cast, and models.

All I would be interested in would be getting my son, wife, and dog out and then fight the fire to minimize the damage.

The animals, emergency food, weapons, contents of my safe and as many CDs as I can.  I'm not too concerned with the models, I've had some desroyed before.

I noticed the vote for two Akagis, can't blame you there.  You guys ever finish them?

I'd let it all burn, collect the insurance and start a NEW hobby. There are far too many things far more important than a bunch of stupid plastic. I'm not gonna go through replacing all my paints, tools etc all over again. That would be the end of this for me. I'd just move on.

Big fire .  .  .  Only one model .  .  . oh, that's easy; Christie Brinkley! No doubt about it.

Of course, my wife would have me tossed back into the fire .  .  . and then break out the marshmallows !!!

After ensuring my wife and kids are safe, I’d grab my trombone and euphonium and then any family pictures that I could grab. As far as the models, I’ve enjoyed them and I can always get new ones. I’d probably grab my modeling tools and what’s left of my Model Master paints before any models.
