Ordering supplies online
Posted by MR TOM SCHRY on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 12:28 PM

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if any modelers out there could tell me if they have had any experiences with ordering modeling supplies from "Last Calvary" in Michigan.  They carry some supplies that I've been searching for and I don't have a lot of experience ordering things online.  Thanks!

I have never ordered from them (they won't ship to Canada) but have been in the store several times. Their website is right up to date and it looks like they do a regular online business so I would order from them without hesitation.

Back when everything was shut down I ordered many supplies online from different places and never had a single issue.

I ordered some busts and figures from Dave at Last Cavalry last year.  Took about a week for the order to be boxed and mailed, but it arrived the 2nd day after.  Since they actually had all the hard-to-find items in stock I was looking for, I didn't mind the wait too much, and I will order from him again in the future.

Hi TJS!

I don't know about them, but I have purchased stuff on line and so far(Knock on Wood) I have been very satisfied, He has a good rep as far as my gaming store is concerned. ( I do Age of Sigmarr Figures, too)

We have become spoiled by internet buying and such places as Amazon with their next day delivery methods. I still recall when 95% of the things you ordered from catalogues or magazine ads very clearly stated "6 to 8 weeks delivery". Would be very happy when it would show up in 5 weeks.

Now I order something and the next day I am all like...

You can buy with confidence from Last Cavalry. Owner Dave Youngquist is a stand-up guy, an excellent painter in his own right.  He carries a good selection of figure kits and supplies, and while it's not overnight shipping (see the post immediately previous to mine), you should not have any problems. Dave delivers.

Besides running the online shopping business and his bricks-and-mortar location, Dave attends several shows throughout the year.  He also maintains a YouTube channel with instructional videos.

I have purchased via the internet, mainly from Amazon, but from other places as well, the only time I had problems is when I ordered  the Heller Le Solei Royal from Internet Hobbies, as we now all know, they are not a trustworthy outfit, so now, before I order anything, I try to research the seller, usually by asking on this blog.

As long as it doesn't ship from China, you should be fine. I learned the hard way when shopping on Ebay to check where the seller was located. Both times when it came from China I had a negative experience - once the item never arrived (although after a LOT of back and forth they agreed to credit my account) and the other time it was, literally, on the slow boat from China. They shipped it and that was it as far as they were concerned ... it showed In Transit for more than two months.

Yeah, it can be hit or miss buying overseas on Ebay.  Some of my orders originating from China actually arrived within a week and had a California return address.  Others did indeed take as long as 6 to 8 weeks to arrive, and one looked like the box was used to prop up the shipping container.  The model box was destroyed, but thankfully the plastic parts inside were ok.
