Sprue Bros Tour Across America
Posted by Real G on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 12:47 PM

I ordered AFV Club's Churchill AVRE w/ small box girder bridge (a Grail kit that has been on my wish list for a long time) from Sprue Brothers last week.  But my package seems to be headed someplace other than Hawaii!  Tracking indcated it left Missouri, then went to Massachusetts and New Hampshire, then back to Massachusetts, and is now in Connecticut.  Is the mail man lost?  Is there a city named Honolulu somewhere on the East Coast?  Stick out tongue  Does anyone have a possible explanation?  All my previous orders went immediately due west as they should have.

When my package does arrive (hopefully), it should be awarded frequent flyer miles or something.  Gosh, I hope it doesn't cross the Atlantic and get to me via Europe, Asia, and finally across the Pacific!

Severe weather over the past week has impacted shipping quite a bit.

Thanks,

If it's coming via USPS, they seem to do some really weird things. I won a car radio from Pennsylvania and the seller sent it to Kentucky.

It went to Florida, then to Missouri and then to Kentucky.

After 27 years as a mailman. Nothing surprises me anymore. The reason its in New England is it probably got put in the wrong shipping container and went that way not this, way but that way.  Massachusetts has the plant that handles all of N.E. packages. Why IT went to N.H. and CT I don't know.  Some genius will eventually figure out the machines aren't reading the barcode correctly and get it sorted out

I've seen this sort of thing happen every once in a while since package tracking has become so prevalent. Actually, thinking back, it's happened quite a few times to me over the years.

Whomever coined the phrase 'the straightest line between two points is a straight line' must not have worked in the shipping business.

Got a kick out of your thread title, btw. Smile

My PREVIOUS mail order supplier for my meds was in Harrisburg which is 1-1/2 hours driving time from here. They first send them to somewhere in Ohio. Then to somewhere west of the Mississippi for two or more stops. After that, a couple of more stops till they finally get back here. They say 7 to 10 days and that's when it sometimes gets here (if I'm lucky).

Stay Safe.

Be cool if it showed up with stickers of everywhere it has been, like the old steamer trunks in cartoons.

No, I think they were picking their noses.  We should take a FSM poll; Which do you want to be?

1) A Puh-sicologist

2) A roadrunner.  Beep-beep!  Zip!  Bang!

And a little known fact was that when David Bowie recorded "Let's Dance", his back up vocalist was none other than Elmer Fudd:

"Let's dance.  Put on you wed shoose and dance the bwues."

I definitely need to see a puh-sicologist.  Stick out tongue

My dad once commented that I most closely resembled the coyote, because even at an early age I was always concocting overly complicated plans that were frustrated for one reason or another.

Breaking news:  My model has mysteriously hyper-jumped to Honolulu overnight, according to the tracking.  I am curious to see what the condition of the package will be.  I hope it does not arrive crushed and filled with ice water like one of my Hannants orders!

OK gang, the tour has concluded, with the box arriving in reasonable shape (huh, they endoscoped it!) and the model itself being wholly intact.

I hope to get on this model quickly, as it was one of my foremost wish list kits.  I had eyed a resin conversion kit, but was skeptical that the large bridge would be easy to build.  I have also had resin kits sag over time, and hope the plastic bridge will be dimensionally stable in the coming years.

I built Tamiya's ancient Churchill Mk.VII a number of years ago:

Ayway, thanks guys for keeping me company while I waited for the box to drop.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.  Beep-beep!  Zip!  Bang!  Big Smile

There's a problem with U.S.P.S. for sure. The vehicles they use are not Amphibious! LOL!LOl. I have the same problem and i live in Texas. my last important model related item hit six states Before it finally even got to the Big P.O. in San Antonio.

Yeah, what's up with that TB?  I get it that when stuff comes in from overseas, it goes to the carrier's hub, then to the actual destination.

And when I get stuff from overseas, the box always gets at least one endoscope hole, but I wasn't expecting one from a domestic package.  Is it because Sprue Bros is run by the Chinese?  Is Hawaii considered a hostile foreign nation?  I dunno.  I'm just happy I got my model kit.  Smile

Yep Greg, this kit narrows my armor wish list.  With the bridge in place, it's going to be a monster.  I hope the cables don't yank out the anchor points, since AFV Club tends to make their fine details to scale.

Now if someone would do an all-plastic Sherman V Crab mine flail tank, a WW I K-Wagen, and a proper US MBT-70, I'd be all set.

Yes, it will. I hadn't thought of that.
