I took a butt load of reference pics of a working T6 Texan and a static but complete FM2 Wildcat today, also got some of an L4J with bazookas mounted on the struts. Are you guys interested? If so I'll upload them to Rons site otherwise I don't want to waste his bandwidth.

Thanks for the kind words Ron. The sand bags are made out of two part epoxy putty, the kind you get at Home Depot or WalMart for fixing leaky pipes and stuff. You have to work kind of Quick you only have about 5 min.

Renarts, go ahead and upload them.

Create Two new "Nested Album"s inside the Aircraft Reference Album. Here is how.

1. Go to the Reference Album, then aircraft by clicking here.
http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/aircraftref

2. Click the "Add Nested Album" at the top right. A Pop Up window comes up, just hit OK.

3. You will automatically be in the new Gallery. Now click Properties, and in the name type "T-6 Texan", then hit OK.

4. Click Add Photos, you can upload up to 10 at a time.

When you are done, go UP an album to Aircraft Reference Album again, then go to step 1 for another aircraft, :)

BTW...Ron, aren't you worried about running out of room or your bandwidth?

Oh, I saw your AC pics (I used to play on Frostfell for about a year), but what about AC2?? Wink [;)]

Nah, Im not worried about it.

Currently the site is about 420 megs... I have space for 500. When I get close to that, I will ask for more.

Yeah, I played AC for about a year and a half... was a mod on the forums, webmastered AC Vault, was a monarch in the game with 1400 followers.

Honestly, it just got a bit insane. lol. I just went in game about a week ago to sell my mansion. I still have my characters on Morningthaw.

As for AC2... that game is the most beautiful game I have ever played and it is REALLY fun!

But I dont have anyone to play with besides a dozen or so friends so I got bored.

You dont have to thank me buddy. Its not a big deal at all. I go through and check / upload a few times a day. Lots of people have made erroneous albums, uploaded to the wrong place.. no biggey. Everyone will get used to it. Its still very young.

Being in the web business for over 10 years or so, I am usually the guy that is very adept and able to host things for communities. I host another subsite for a newsgroup that I frequent, alt.design.graphics.

Honestly... with the activity so far.. I really expect that gallery to get to 1000 images or so within 6 months. I am very excited about it. I think it has alot of potential if people want to use it which they are showing they do.

The thing I would like to see more of, is the commenting on each photo. THAT really is a ball. One of my favorite things about it.

Like I commented on your X-Wing model. You can ask the author questions etc, and anyone can comment.. just type in your email and comment, then it goes. You can get some great comments on it.. and its also nice for the builder on a very solo hobby that we have undertaken.

Nothing like letting people into your model cabinet via the internet and praising your work to give you a smile for the day, :)

You did really well man, really well. Those pics are top notch. Now you just need to do a walk around for us.. and do some interior shots also. Show us what the inside looks like and close ups of the headlights, etc.

You put them in the normal Armor category, for like models that you do. I made a new album over in the Reference Album and put them in there for you. So they have a home. Those pics rock though. Man, you never really think how big that piece of armor is until you see a photo like that. yowzers. Here is a direct link:
http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/paladin

You want to upload any more pics you get, you just slap them up in there chief and you are all set.

BTW:
As a reward for your uploading buddy, I did some hunting for you.

Here is the kit in 1/35 Paladin by Italeri: $29.00
http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=635

Here is the detail kit for the Italeri Paladin kit: $19.96
http://squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=EU35319

Both of those places are first rate and you will get your stuff soon. So if you want them just click the links and put in your CC info and you're all set Bro.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the kodos, I'll work on some more close ups of the sensitive areas
IE: the lights , the top deck, the turret, the insides, the breach, etc.
there's a lot of detail on the inside so it definatelly would be a scratch build for sure and a lengthy one at that, but damn would it be COOL!!!!!!!

Also thanks for the heads up on the model, I had one but I gave it away as a gift to my old smoke before he went to his airborne unit. I was going to buy another one today at the local shop, but I didn't know about the detail kit (that's a must have!)

If anyone needs the colors for the insides, I can hook that up as well:
A-5 = light mint green color & A-6 mostly white
don't forget we also put thick rubber mats inside the guns as well for traction when we track in mud etc, and the bore gets swabed out after firing.
over all in the field they're pretty dirty inside unless you have a neet freak for a chief?

well gotta jet, I just got off of a 24hr CQ gotta hit the rack.
later.

New Aircraft Reference Sub-Gallery Added
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 25, 2003 7:40 PM
Thank you for your most generous offer, Ron...

I've created an F-16 Falcon (Block C/D) reference gallery and I nested the following sub-gallery in it:

http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/HAF

It contains 8 pics, as of yet. All pictures (most of them showing partial aircraft details) refer to Hellenic (ie. Greek) Air Force's F-16 Fighting Falcon (Block C/D), featuring the famous "Aegean Ghost" camo, plus some more details (shown on pics shot inside maintenance hangars) that I'll be adding pretty soon.

In time, I'm also going to add reference sub-galleries about almost every aircraft type that is being (or has been) in service for the HAF (such as, Mirage2000, A-7E, F-4, F-104, F-5, Mirage F-1, C-130 etc)...

Thanx again...

Feel free to upload as much as you like. Create the sub galleries for each of the aircraft that you want shown. If I see any albums with Aircraft I have pics of, I will upload them also.

Hey Ron,
I tried to upload some of those T6 reference photos and it took an unusually long time. ( an hour +) and never did get them in. Am I just a victim of dial up or is there some sort of format you would like the photos in that I'm overlooking?

i.e. how many dpi jpeg
image size
canvas size etc.

The only problem would be if you named them jpeg instead of jpg.

If you have a problem, just cancel it and try again. Not sure what happened.

Hi Ron,
I've just uploaded a photo of an RAF Desert Storm Chinook to your gallery. I intended to put it in the reference section for a chap on this board (In the Helicopters section) who was after an image. Unfortunately I was unable to put it into the reference section for some reason. I expect you know how to use the gallery better than I do, so please could you put it in the right place!

Sorry for unintentionally messing up your layout,

Hey Ron,
Well I did it. As computer stupid as I am I was able to figure it out. I uploaded some of the pics of the fm-2 I shot. Hope someone can use them. I want to cut down the size of the T6 pics as they're in high res.

Thanks,

How do you manage your pictures page when someone uploads their images or you put new ones on yourself.

I am constructing my website for my pictures and right now I have to do the layout manually and it is time consuming as hell! Eventually I would like to be able to have people upload pic's and download ones they like as well.

Hey, Ron:

Thanks for giving us all a place to put our photos!

I was trying to put a couple of extra C-130 photos into the album I created the other day in the reference photo section, and ended up with them outside the album. I got them into the album, but my first attempts are still outside of it. They're two jpegs that go by the names "Hercnose" and "USMC Herc". Thought I'd let you know so you could delete the ones outside the album. No need for clutter.

I added a bunch of photos to the reference section today, some of them are not crystal clear, but I blame the prevailing weather conditions, my camera and scanner limitations for any lacking clarity.

If anyone can make use of, or just enjoy any one of the photos I've posted, it will have been worth the effort putting them up :-)

Thanks again Ron!

Hi again, Ron,

I've just added some new reference photos in the F-16 (HAF) section and I also created a new nested subdirectory in the Bf-109 section containing some original WWII color shots of the bird.

Come to think of it, the way this whole idea is going, we all might as well end up with a new web reference standard in our hands... Ebay and CDDB have been initiated this way, you know...

Take care...

George,

The new shots of the Bf109 are great. I've got a copy of that one shot of the camo patterend bird flying over the desert at sunset on the wall of my office. A classic of why camo works.
My wife has been getting on me to build and paint that bird and rig up a display stand with using the desert floor spotted with vegetation as a base. I fear that if I don't do it soon she will do it herself. (should I be afraid?)

Ron, again....this is too kind. As George said, it has become a point of reference for many and a source of info that is becomming more than what I think you intended it to become.

Heres to Ron! and his enthusiasm and generosity.

Oooh Rah!

Is there a way to "cross-post" pics (you know, like you do to post them here at FSM?)

I've got mine uploaded on wepspace provided by my ISP. Since I'm back in the dark ages with dial-up, I'm hoping to avoid having to RE-upload :)

Hey Everyone!

I went to Disney world this weekend and met a very cool girl and had a great weekend, so I wasn't around at all! Please forgive me, :)

I just looked at the gallery and was in total awe. You guys and gals are doing an incredible job. It is growing just like I thought it would. The lack of unneeded ads, clicks, extra graphics, menus.. etc make it a very easy and straight forward gallery that is catching on like wild fire.

The new galleries that were uploaded were ... well... simply put... incredible. I really enjoy the thought everyone is putting into it and making it a substantial resource for us all to use. I am finding myself leaving the page open to the reference section a bit more while I build so I can instantly click over to what I need and see the shots!

Also remember... to rename the album, not only INSIDE the album.. the Album Title.. but also the internal name.. .when you go up a level and see the album as a thumbnail, click the pulldown and rename it from "album01" etc. It makes it easier to navigate and easier to manage your links for your personal use. As an example...

I just changed album04 to c130ref... to give you an idea.

Honestly.. if you do NOT know how to do that, do NOT let that keep you from creating an album and uploading. I check it every few days and rename any albums that need that. So dont stress out or worry about it, I will do it if you dont. No need to apologize or not upload if you cant... its not a big deal. I can do it very fast without a problem.

The thing to remember though.... if your link has a "album06" or whatever number behind an "album" word... I WILL rename it.. so your links will go dead and when you click them just take you to the main album and you will have to click down to the proper album.

As for cross posting... no, it can't be done in the way you are saying. The album will only display images that it "houses".. that are resident on the server. This ensures stability and content. As for uploading... remember you can do up to 10 images at a time and you can minimize it... you dont have to pay attention to it. After it is done uploading, the small window that is used for uploading disappears.

Great work everyone.. this gallery is really taking off.

As for the MOPP suits. Sure!!

Make a new gallery under uniforms... rename it to MOPP Suits.. then do the internal renaming to moppref, and upload those pics!

when my wife comes home, I'll put that suit on, it's rather hot in that thing so I won't put on the rest of my battle rattle gear?
I also figured out how to use my digital camera a lil' better on my most recent jaunt to the box.
well take care, I'll have that stuff out later this evening.

It's already becoming a good resource and showcase of models. Well done Ron, very generous of you to host this kind of thing.

Out of gratitude I have duly added a couple of reference shots of a T-34/85 I saw at a car museum. I hope they are of use (especially as a study in rust! Big Smile [:D])

I'm sure I can find some more pics to add in the future.

My latest offerings may be of interest to petrolheads - a couple of beauty shots of some classic cars, and a Ferrari Track Day at Donington Park, which I stumbled across by chance when I visited the excellent Formula 1 museum there in May.

this is another way of posting images on this site DIRECTLY on the forums. i havent figured it out yet though. the image inserting is odd. anyway you can go to www.speedis.org and upload an image from your hard drive. it will give that image an internet address and u can post it.

Gus,

1. That is exactly what the gallery does. You upload it from your hard drive.. it gives you an Internet Address... and you can insert it into your post.... see mine below. Its free hosting.

2. You cannot post directly to the forum. The forum pulls the image from the URL you put into the img tags. There is nothing to figure out.. it doesnt exist.

3. This is the most common way of posting images on any forum.

You aren't an idiot Gus, you just didn't know.

I started it because when I came to the site the forums were littered with "how do I post a pic" and "where can I host?" .. as well as the broken image links because yahoo pictures or wherever would give them a download limit ... which is one of the easiest things to fix. Its a very visual hobby and I enjoy seeing other people's work.

Thanks for providing the Image Gallery.

Just uploaded a few pics O-2, B-47, F-4, F-14, XB-70, and an OV-10. I need one of the OV-10s deleted. I also loaded different views of a hummer. Hopefully, I have successfully posted a image

Hey Ron,

I keep meaning (but forgetting) to thank you for puting my 1/72 Challenger tank on the armour modeling section's title image.

Even though I've been in the modelling hobby for more than 20 years, that is my first armour kit ever, I loved the way it turned out and its very gratifying to see it meet with the aproval of veteran armour builders such as yourself.

Thanks a lot!

First off, this is the first chance I've had to check the gallery in a while thanks to other commitments that have conspired to reduce my model-related-surfing time. Great work everyone! There's sure a lot there to keep my occupied for a while!

Second, I've finally had the opportunity to do some uploading of my own. Some of you will recognize these from here at FSM, but I wanted to take advantage of Ron's generous hosting to post my work with everyone elses! Big Smile [:D]

Ron, I sent you an email about posting some of the Dayton Air Show pictures that I took a week ago friday. I hope you didn't mind that I posted them on your website for everybody to see. I was having a little problem figuring it out at first and sent you another about a file for air shows. Well, I figured out how to do a file and made one in the References file under aircraft. Can you put the first six that I put in in that Air Shows file. When I put them in they were just hanging loose in the aircraft references file. Thanks, and sorry to be so much of a bother. This is a very appreciated service that you are offering.Big Smile [:D]

I have now uploaded the final few images of my T-34 buildup.

It is essentially finished - I just want to add securing straps to the crates and give it a matt varnish. I might tone down the rust effect a little in places before doing that.

I hope it's been interesting and useful for people to see how a n00b does it ! Big Smile [:D]

Ron,
I was just scanning through these posts, and realized have haven't said THANK YOU!

This is a great service you're providing for everybody.
I finally got some decent digital pix of my junk, and have been dumping quite a bit of in the gallery.
I'm no computer wiz, but I found it very easy to use.

And it's great to just browse through the gallery and see everyone's great stuff!

Again, thanks.

Hey Guys, Im still here.

Been so busy lately moving to LA and everything has kept me in a state of disarray. I did get a chance to finish that A10 that has been sitting for a month on my table though.

The new logon and pass will work, but ONLY in the *upload here* folder.

What happened... everyone kept creating new folders for every model they had and it clogged up the system so badly it would time out. Im going to have to logon to the forum and delete a bunch of sub-gallerys. I will delete only model folders and not from the reference.

I have been so busy, I forgot to pay the bill. It will be back up on monday/tuesday or so.

Hey Ron, glad to hear from you. Was beginning to wonder if everything was okay.

I remember sometime ago, you were looking for volunteers to help with the gallery. Did you still need volunteers for the gallery? I think we had exchanged a couple of emails about it, but I don't remember where we were at. Blush [:I]

I know I could have went offline with this, but one reason I posted it here was because I wanted to say I'd still be willing to help out, but it would be nice to have one or two more volunteers if they're still needed. Smile [:)]

Yes actually, I need a ton of help with it. I rarely have time to work on it unfortunately.

Did you get my email I sent you with password/logon info .. in my initial response to your offer?

Yes, I'm sure I received it. I just need to find it. Blush [:I]

I just tried sending you an email, but the one you have listed for your account bounced back to me. Can you send me an email (via the forum) with one that's currently working?
