I've spent around $90US for the Dragon Wagon and $60US for the CH-46. It has to be a kit I really want for me to justify spending that much money on one kit. Most of my purchases run in the $30's.

As much as I'd love to try one of Accurate Armor's HET kits, no way am I paying that much for one. So I'd say my high end limit for kit price would work out in the $100US range.

The manufacurer is still in business but he no longer markets Star Wars items. I did manage to get a B-wing kit before he was ordered to stop. His kits are very, very good. Here's a link to his site:

I would have loved to have gotten a B-Wing. I have always had a slight obsession with B-Wings. lol.

It is not unusual for me to splash out $50~120 or more for a Kit, there is one Kit I still want but it costs about $1.200 and is only made on order.

The most I’ve ever paid is about $78 AUD ($58 USD) for a Tamiya Ardennes Tiger II a while ago. It was the one that included the motorbike and rider and was a great kit by the way.

Biggest waste of money ever was a Verlinden Resin and Brass set that cost me $50 AUD ($37 USD) and was of questionable quality to say the least. I ended up ditching most of it Sad [:(]

The most I have handed actual cash over for was $40 for a OOP kit. I have built the Dragon Wagon ( gave $35 for it) and the Dragon Morser gun ( gift certs got it) and a Accurate Minatures kit that I got for free. I'm just a cheap guy.

Mine can't be more than $15 or $20. Most car kits stay at about $10, but I know I've gotten a few that were more than that.

US$22 for a Tamiya King Tiger. I could go beyond that but I don't think that's necessary at this time with my skill level.

About $39 for Tamiya's early Sherman at my LHS. This was before the beauty of online ordering.

Given my skill level, I don't spend a too much on individual kits. I've bought a couple of $50 dollar kits, but they were on sale at the time. However I am waiting for the day that I have sufficient disposable income to cavalierly go to Hobbytown USA and say "I'll take that 1/48 AC-130 by Italeri. I doubt I'll ever bother buying anything more expensive than that.

I guess it'd be a two-foot high vinyl kit of Godzilla (Bio-Goji) from Paradise, for which I paid $275 USD. That was before I moved to Japan...and found that the same kit retails here for about $100!! Oh well, what did I know...(I knew that it was super-cool!).
No worries, though; I had sold an 18" Kenner "Alien" figure for $250 to finance the Big G, so I actually invested only $25 in it!

As far as the highest price paid for an in-production kit in its normal market, it would have to be either my 1/16 Tamiya Tiger I or Tiger II static kits, both of which cost 23,000 yen (about $210 USD). Actually, the Aber detail-up set for the Tiger I cost more than the kit! It was 29,800 yen (about $270 USD). So, the Tiger I PLUS the Aber set was about...$480? Still cheaper than the RC version!

I don't think I've ever paid more than £30 ($45 or so) for a kit. I've had a few great deals on e-Bay. Most expensive kit I recall buying from a shop was Special Hobby's X-15A-2, 1/48... Paid about £25 for it. I suppose with inflation, it would have to be Monogram's B-36 though. Back in the early '80s, I got it for about £20, or $30... It retails at £50 now ($75). But it was worth it!

The most I've paid for a single kit - not including AM stuff - is $120.00 for the Tamiya FAMO w/Trailer. At a close second is the Tamiya Dragon Wagon at $99.20. After that, it drops off quite dramatically.

Can you give a link to this kit? I would be very interested in seeing what it is.
There hasn't really been anything I've really wanted so far because I'm just getting into modeling. The most I've paid for a kit though is my Tamiya King Tiger for about $25 w/tax.

What is the most you would have paid or have paid for a kit?
Posted by Aurora-7 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 7:44 AM
In another modeling site's forum there were posts regarding a Star Wars model that was on ebay. It was a kit from a 'garage' manufacturer who was told to stop production by Lucasfilms because he was not liscensed. The kit was avialable for a brief time and it originally went for $120.00. Earlier this year one was on ebay aropund tax return time. I remember because that's when I had the money to bid $350.00 for it. I lost. Someone got it for over $400.00.

Another of the same kit just recently went for $167.00 on ebay Sad [:(] I never even tried thinking the same price, if not more, would have been fetched.

So how bad have you wanted a model?
