Hi DJ. Mine is going in 79sqn colours at RAF Brawdy south wales. I spent a week there when i was in the Air Training Corps and the model will remind me of that great week of flying, shooting and working on the hunters. I think yours will look stunning as a Black Arrows aircraft. I havn't got any contacts (yet) but i will see what i can do. i was thinking of maybe doing a small airshow first. something like the one at Elvington(Yorkshire Air Museum). we would realy need somewhere undercover in case it rains also this venue has easy access from the A1 and M1 motorways and it has the added bonus of having the museum aircraft there (including a Hunter) for us to photograph. Also for the Fujimi kits have you tried www.kingkit.co.uk ?I use this for my hard to find kits and the only one that he hasn't had is the Heller 1/72 EC121 Warning Star. If you think that Elvington is a good idea i will drive over there and see whats possable, I think their show is in september .....Greg

Greg, I think it's a great idea too. Have you got any contacts? I haven't decided yet on the Skyhawk... I've bought about 5 Italeri kits lately but I'm having trouble locating the Fujimi kits and I'll need those to start the collection. By the way, I also bought the !/32 Hunter at a very similar price two weeks ago! Lovely kit. I am considering a Black Arrows aircraft for this kit. What about you?

Just had a (probably stupid) idea. what about local groups of members puting on model displays at airshows? it would be a good way of putting faces to the names on this forum and members that are not involved could call for a chat. I for one would like to meet you guys. Anyone going to the Waddington airshow on sunday?i'll be there with the wife and kids...Gregers

Gregers, Derek,

Yeah, I think you got it this time, an even better idea than the original one (I can be modest sometimes!). So, if I get you right, we need to find shows to squat in, say different countries, around the same time as the BIG one in the US (in 2005). Those 'national' shows would allow for people to meet without incurring the costs of the trip to the US, and build 'camaderie' and contacts with the view of hosting the BIG one later in their country/continent... Regionals on a larger scale, such as 'Continental' would probably not be anymore less expensive that going to the BIG one (the Intercontinental). For me, near London, it's just about cheaper to fly to NYC that to Helsinki, if you know what I mean. Knowing prices of domestic flights in the US, you are probably in the same boat (no pun intended).

That Chipmunk will be awesome, I feel.. You should do the nuke-armed variant equiped with the Rocket Assisted Take Off system. Looked cool. And I thought they had Russian-made machine guns..??!? Are you using the national insignas with the flying elephant, or the later one with rampant zebra???

Joke apart, I think this could be a great theme for us... What if Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia, no?) had won WWII... Tell you, that Zuluzwilling in its three-tone purple/mauve/orange scheme and the flying elephant roundels was a mean looking thing! Best ever machine for this demanding dusk-bomber role. Did you see how many Spandau machine guns it had!

Tim, James, thanks for your support. I've contacted IPMS USA to get some info from them. We'll see what they think.

Count me in, I'm game too. Now I just have to get the "NO" person (see dictionary under "wife") to say YES.

I'm not good enough to enter a comp either, but I would really like to meet some of you guys.

Zuluzwilling..LMAOBig Smile [:D] You got any idea how many time I had to read that to wrap my mind around the pronunciation! Tongue [:P]

Here is my take on the idea so far. I like Mike's idea of "regionals" for Europe, North America, South America, Asia/Pacific, Africa and the Mid East for those those simply can't afford a big trip. Do these in conjunction with a large show every couple years that is in one of the above regions. Move the big show from region to region and regional gatherings around within the region of course. Make the emphasis on comrederie and fun NOT competition.

P.S. If I ever get to Japan it would have to be a for a couple weeks at least. This history of ths country is simply fascinating.

Sorry DJ. I got the wrong idea. The regional meets could be "just for starters" to test the water so to speak to get to know people and find traveling companions for "the big one" where ever that may be. I dont enter comps (not good enough for that yet).but for the display i'll start building a zimbabwean DH Chipmunk fighterbomber right away, how should i arm it "nukes or napes"let me know and do you think a 50 cal rear gun is going a bit too far?...Greg

I have nothing against competition (I do enter some in here), but that's not what my main idea is all about. You know how comps can be... Squatting a show will allow us to display something unusual and exciting and people will if they want be able to enter the comp that is organised there. My main idea is having a great time with great folks in a once-in-a-lifetime kind of gathering. I think organising 'regionals' so to speak, dilutes what is so incredible about such a gathering.

Hi DJ. I like Renarts idea of regional meets with their own winners but what about having an all winners final over the web? we could ask FSM if they would mind hosting it on this forum and travel logistics would no longer be a problem..Gregers Cool [8D]

Another thought the members could do the voting Cool [8D]

Mike, I do agree that the logistics are complicated and even daunting, and that a limited number of people will actually do the trip. But having four or more different events in different continents (despite being a good idea!) is not the same as people from all over the globe meeting at one point. I'm sure however, that we need to create some kind of network on separate continents (countries in some cases) where local people can actually organise things (either accommodation, transport, ,,) for the big day. For me, visiting the IPMS USA Nats (or any other BIG show there) would be fantastic. Not a one-in -a life-time thingy (because I do have family there after all) but for many others it would be. For you guys in the US, 2007 would be the opportunity to travel to Europe. In 2009 to Japan. Other than for that, what other chances would we all have to go to Japan?

Since the biggest worry right now is the logistics of the European guys making it to the U.S. and or the U.S. guys making it to Europe, why not break it up?

Since it will be the first time for this. Why not have four FSM Forum sorties.
A european representation, a U.S., an Asian/Pacific and a Canadian. What better justification for the e-coverage of each, four different areas get coverage, work out the bugs on a comparatively local area and the added benefit of forum members getting together in their areas. Then after these initial sorties, coordinate an international one using lessons learned. More members from Europe will stand a better chance of getting together at a european contest than if only a couple made it to the U.S. And the same goes for each of the other 3.

Just an option to the already very cool idea.

There's an idea, have a modelers cruise, all of us from the west side of the pond, sail over to the UK pick up all the members from Europe sail back to North America and then a final return to the UK, don't think the wife is gonna argue with a cruise. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Sounds like a great idea, although I don´t think I´ll be able to make it across the Atlantic in the forseeable future. And I´m not talking floor polish here. I get enough raised eyebrows if I try and convince my girlfriend about a local Land Rover get together. (I can see her point.. Lots of strange people she´s never met before talking about mud, tyre sizes, bit of engine and how bad the heater works vs. lots of strange people she´s never met before talking about glue, the benefits of acryllics over enamel, why we all love our no. 11's and who´s got the best airbrush) Hmm.. At least everyone would speak English in some form or another. I think I can also guarantee that most would be completely harmless people, unless let near booze and anything that can spark a nostalgic rant.

As for the group discount.. Sorry guys, airlines don´t do those things (have tried and failed..). Maybe if we hustle aboard a military transport when nobodies looking, or 'borrow' our own plane..

How much would an ocean liner be? Or go air freight..

In short: I´m in favor of a 'Home venue' version.. Europe, Australia, Where-Eversville..

Sounds like a great idea! I've been to a few out of town venues for shows over the years. They can be a fabulous experience if you road-trip with the right folks. I'm up for it. - Ed

THATS A GREAT IDEA!!!!!

Perhaps some fundimentals should be laid out though.
Rules and out lines need to be done.

Perhaps an online commity?

Has anyone contacted FSM for their opinion?

Should this be basic ?

Or commplicated like the IPMS bylaws.

Just a note: Look at how well the Tamiya con's are doing.

Why stop at the nationals?
