Hi everyone,
It's lunchtime as I'm writing this and the temp. in my workshop has just hit 85F! It is'nt often that it's too hot to build here in the U.K. , but it is today!

Phew!

Darren.

Last year, it was so hot I couldn't use spray paint until the fall. The temp. was 105 with 100% humidity for almost two months.

I'm here in Northren VA (no, I'm not a redneck Big Smile [:D]), and the weather has been absolutley awful the past several weeks. One moment it's raining, the next, the sun's out. The humidity is horrible and when it's hot, it's HOT!!!! Maybe that's why our family vacation's going up to Maine....

Can't model much because I can't get outside to airbrush. My spraybooth's arriving, but in the meantime, I usually go out on the deck and paint. The rain stops me. Whenever I open the door, it rains. Scary....

It's funny, I go from 110 and boiling to about 68 and raining in only one day. Oh it's great to be back in the Northwest!

I live in upstate New York where it is not to bad except in late August. Since it is nice outside, I really do not want to be inside so I built myself an R/C model airplane kit and fly outdoors on nice days and then on windy and rainy days I work on the platic kits. It is a good combination.

Well I think I have you all beat! I live out in the middle of the high desert here in so-cal, and it gets to about 116 or higher. and I want to paint so bad but even in the house it gets so hot that my paints dry way to quick!! this sucks and leaves me praying for the fall to come round again.

Aah yes even here in lovely So. Cal we just experienced an unusual amount of humidity. (Normal in late July for a couple of weeks). But we are back to a normal Mediterranean style climate of dry heat in the 80-100 temp. We get a slight breeze here off the San Gabriels, so with the garage door open and a fan it keeps the work shop comfortable. Throw in some classic rock and several hours on a Sunday I can work on several projects. But it is hard to concentrate at times and with so many things to do it can be hard to stick to it. More projects get completed quicker in October-March time frame where the weather cools off and is more pleasant. Shy [8)] By the way Oregon is beautiful. Trees, Crater Lake, nice people no taxesCool [8D]. But my heart is in So. Cal. Cool [8D]

well up here in saskatchewan, we have the extremes: -40 to about 90 (sometimes, but rarely 100). it is also fairly humid, although not near as humid as lots of places. but I usually do my modeling in the basement, where it stays fairly cool throughout the summer.

Just got back from Chandler AZ, right next to Phoenix. Oh my god, I thought I was going to melt. The humidity was far higher than normal. Dead [xx(] I will never complain about the NW again. It's a totally different area than where I live, cactus everywhere, and homes that all look alike. [:0] Up here in the NW you can find a coffee shop on almost every corner, down there you have to hunt around for one. Makes sense though, who would want to drink coffee in that climate. There are some really interesting sites down there though. Wouldn't mind visiting, but not living there. Also, hardly anybody has grass in there lawns, just crushed red granite. I like that , low maintenance yard! Tongue [:P]

The heat can certainly be unpleasant, but as davesteingass points out, the humidity is what you have to look out for. I'm a native of Michigan who now lives in Missouri. I can't seem to get used to the high humidity and a good moisture trap on your airbrush is a must!

My Garage WOrkshop has a window dual fan unit installed, so even in the Hot HOt, it's fairly pleasant. Just don't spray Krylon clear Matte spray in the humidity, it whitens your paint job and ruins it (My Polar Lights Hulk model needs total rework.)

I remember one like that too. The best one that I saw had I-5 re-routed so that it went around the State of Oregon. There was a whole series of "we don't want you here" shirts floating around. It was a great campaign and drew a large number of people there to visit and to stay.

Shermanfreak, back in the 70's our then Gov. Tom McCall had another saying "You can come to Oregon to visit, just don't move here!" (or something to that degree). However, during the 80's housing boom in California, many of them migrated North into our state.

LOL James ...... in the mid 70's I had the pleasure of visiting your lovely State for the first time. Your Department of Tourism (or whatever they call it there) had a great campaign to lure tourists going at that time. I remember buying a t-shirt that said "In Oregon You Won't Get A Tan ...... You'll Just Rust Instead".

Your post about the rain just reminded me of this.
Been back a couple of times since and always enjoyed my time there.

I'm with Berny13 - never too hot for modeling. Just gotta build something!
(Only thing that keeps me sane) Of course I am lucky enough to have a nice
cool basement to work in. . .

Well James, thank goodness we Pacific Northwesterners get enough rain, thus forcing us indoors to hopefully accomplish some modeling for a lack of anything better to do. Wink [;)] If it were sunny all the time here, I doubt I would get much done.

I live in Ontario have central air and model room in the basement only problem is that when its really hot upstairs its freezing down below, but I used to live in the U.K so I am used to that.

All things are a case of mind over matter, If you don`t mind it doesn`t matter !!!!

Here on Whidbey Island it's not that its too hot (a nice breeze keeps things comfortable, except for the truck cab after being parked in the sun...), it's just to NICE not to be running around outside!!!

Berny- I remember living in Pensacola and being not so much worried about the heat but the humidity, since i was at the time paiting outside (small apartment, only place to spray was an improvised booth out on the patio).

Well, just too hot to build outside. I still build inside during this time of year. :)

It's never too hot to build. That is like saying it is too cold to fish or hunt. There is no such thing.

Here in NW Florida in the summer it get HOT and HUMID. This last weekend it was 92 degrees with 90 percent humidity. I worked outside installing a privacy fence around my property. That evening, in a cool house, I spent about three hours working on a model. It helped me relax and ease the tension.

Too hot to build models, never.

<<I agree with maddafinga, spring and fall are the best times to be outdoors, not too hot or humid and not so many bugs to get stuck in your wet paint!>>

Of course, in spring and fall here, we tend to get tornados. Talk about unpredictable weather, those storm cells can bloom up in about an hour out of nowhere. That great big one of a few years back got to within 3 miles of my house before it petered out. Lucky me!

I live in SoCal and also work outside(construction) . Being out in the heat all day zaps my energy so I just don't feel like doing much when I get home. I have several projects started that I just can't seem to finish.
