Rarely music, usually TV in the background. One or another cable news chanel or the History channel. Occasionally I'll put in a DVD as background. As for the music thing, the only songs I seem to be able to remember how to play escept for my own(guitar) are old Def Leppard, Judas Priest or Pre-Justice Metallica! Can anyone recommend a good collection of popular songs from the 40's? I bought one but it's late 40's. It's good but I want more.

Great thread. I salute all you modelers who admit that you play 80's music. Tongue [:P] BrianH1011, I love George Carlin, but I'd be afraid to play him for fear of slicing my finger off from laughing so hard! Big Smile [:D] For the comment on rap with a "C" in front of it, I couldn't agree more.

Lots of New Age stuff for me. Richard Burmer, Jeanne Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, David Arkenstone. I find I'm more creative when I have that punched up. But I will also punch up some 80's and big band stuff as well.

I also have a very large collection of Medieval Music that gets a share of playtime and my own guitar music. I play classical.

Now Blackwolf had it right. I am a huge fan of Radio Theatre as well.

My tastes are changing. THe kid that works for me likes alot of new hard stuff. Limp Bizkit, Marylynn Manson, Rage at the Machine, Korn, so I get exposed to that at work for a while. Its o.k. till I get tired of it and make his head explode by plugging in a CD of 13th c. German Baudy Songs or 18thc. Sea Chantys. Its good to be the boss.

Glad to see this was a good question! Lots of variety! I loved the feedback. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who listens to metal. My choices?
chimaira, cannibal corpse, fear factory, helmet, unearth, killswitch engage, slayer, candiria, vision of disorder. Now for something differnet: ABBA, Beethoven, Bhuddist monks ritual music, Boston. I have a tape of 2 guys that remade a bunch of classical Mozart and Beethoven pieces on acoustic quitars. Being a guitar player myself I like almost anything with a guitar, except country, I can't get past the twangy sound and whiny lyrics. Evil [}:)]

>>BrianH1011, I love George Carlin, but I'd be afraid to play him for fear of slicing my >>finger off from laughing so hard!

I did just that the first few times I listened and tried modeling!! Having listened to George and the rest of the bunch quite alot in the last 8 years, I have a good idea when the real juicy stuff will happen, and tend to pause so I don't make another blood donation!! Robin Williams, OTOH... Well, just have to put the models down with him, 'cause I can't stop laughing at the guy... ;^))

When I was working, I'd do almost all my modeling in the evening. Usually when I model in the evening, I'd have heavy metal on--anything from classic Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple all the way through AC/DC, Metallica, Motorhead, even some of the "hair metal" like Britny Fox or Def Leppard, the Seattle bands like Nirvana or Alice In Chains, some of today's "nu metal" bands like System of a Down if I can get them on vinyl LP. (Of course this means having to stop every twenty minutes to change the record, but I'm one of those vinyl fanatics that hates the sound of CD's.) While modeling during the daytime, I like other kinds of music--Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Dionne Warwick's "Soulful" album (the greatest non-metal album ever made), INXS, The Cars. Other times I might listen to talk radio ( Jim Rome is a favorite of mine).

Now that I'm not working, I find that lately, I've been doing more of my modeling with the music off. It's too distracting sometimes with all the great stuff in my record collection! Conversely, more often I don't model while I listen to music; now I just kick back and enjoy!

I like a broad range of 80's music. Public Image Limited, Suicidal Tendancies, The Cure, X, The Smiths, Modern English, Faith No More, The Sex Pistols, and the list rolls on forever. I also enjoy heavy metal..Turn it up to 11. Ted Nuggent, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc...etc. Just say no to (c)rap and country, unless it's Johnny Cash... Sorry.Cool [8D]Tongue [:P]

I tend to listen to classical stuff, soul and jazz. It helps me relax and enjoy whatever I'm doing in my workshop. However, I reserve the right to blast out some of my favourite rock tunes whenever the mood takes me.

Cheers,

Darren.

I gotta keep it happy and/or kool! I mostly listen to late 1920's and 1930's jazz: Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Eddie Condon, Fletcher Henderson, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, King Oliver, etc. Smile [:)] Once in a while some later Dave Brubeck, MJQ, Gerry Mulligan, or Stan Kenton. Wink [;)]

Spooky! Anyone would think this is a Metallica fan site!

I'm into a range of rock/alternative stuff but I generally model to the Pixies, the Sisters, Queens of the Stone Age, Jane's Addiction, Audioslave, Soundgarden or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers depending on my mood. The Black Album occasionally makes it onto the stereo as well!

Cheers,

I am not trying to put down Metallica as I think they are a great band, but whenever I think of them ( or AC/DC ), I think of Beavis and Butt-Head.

Can you imagine Beavis or Butt-Head trying to build models ???

That's the reason they are not on TV anymore. Beavis took up basket weaving and Butt-Head started building armour kits. He tried german WWII aircraft but coudn't master the paint schemes. You might see him at some of the shows, slightly balding but still a brilliant conversationalist.Tongue [:P]

I listen to rock...classic, 80's, early 90's, and some new stuff but not a lot of it is much good. Also listen to a lot of other 80's stuff...the real "alternative" stuff, one hit wonder stuff, etc... Some of the 60's stuff: Doors, Beach Boys, Hendrix, and whatever else strikes my fancy. I can listen to a lot of different types of music...(C)rap is not music.Big Smile [:D]

Hey all,
Like most of you have posted, it all depends on what I'm building at the time.
Sometimes if I am not sure on what to build I just start listening to my cds. Ya know Glenn Miller, Johnny Mercer, Van Halen, Metallica, AC?DC, EnyaWink [;)].
Usually after awhile I can determine what my next build will be(most of the time that is).
Well if Metallicas sales were to drop, at least they cant blames us guys hereTongue [:P]Tongue [:P].
Flaps up, Mike

If you would listen to everybody about the inaccuracies, most of the kits on your shelf would not have been built Too Close For Guns, Switching To Finger

I can't do music when i model....
first the foot starts tapping, then the leg starts shaking.... all very bad things when doing detailed work!!! :)

I'll either listen to sports radio or news (as long as it's not a call in show, as I regard most of them to be a few notches below Jerry Springer on the respectability scale), or I'll have the TV on - preferably sports.

i usually listen to xfm radio in london (www.xfm.co.uk) lots of great indie music. Also like the kings of leon as someone already mentioned. I also like good 80's music like Depeche mode smiths and new order. Also a big fan of Norwegian band a-ha a truly great band.
I am very much for the C before rap.

I like A-ha and your post made remember another 3-letter group I like. OMD. Both are great to listen to while modelling or after a (c)rap(py) day at work!

Since I tend to build SF craft, I find most inspiration from listening to the soundtracks of the subject, eg I will listen to Thunderbirds episodes whilst building models from that series and when I was building the Mk IX Hawk, I listened to Space:1999.
Otherwise, I tend to listen to BBC Radio 4 or Classic FM

there's a radio deck somewhere nearby and it's usually switched to 100 fm on friday nights for 80's "classics", followed by 90's "classics".
Heaven.
