If you think wives are threatening, When I was in the Seminary, the Rector over heard me talking to a classmate that that month's centerfold model was curvaceous and beautiful.[:0] I had to explain that the magazine was "Model Builder" and the centerfold model was a peanut scale plan of a MiG-15Approve [^] He decided that there were worse distractions a priest can suffer from. He was right. You guys with wives, I pray for you.

Hey paulnchamp, you are right, celibacy does give one more time to build.Big Smile [:D]

Hey monsterarmor, good for you and your Mrs., maybe she can talk to my wife about building models. My wife thinks models are something I stare at in magazines! Disapprove [V]

Im hopin shell stick to that and get hooked :)

OOPS! [:0] I did it again. Only this time it was a Tamiya 1/350 USS Missouri. I got it for $30 w/$8 for shipping. Not a bad deal. $38 total.

I can only hope that I will someday have a wife as supportive as y'all got!
Oh, and I think she'll have it pretty made, seeing as I've been trained to cook, clean, and even sew every now and then! So, all my wife really has to do is put up with me, and I'll take care of the rest!

Therrriman, your wife and mine must have gone to the same school of sleep. Disapprove [V]

Qmiester, our wives are smart, we aren't out doing temptious things, so we deserve a little thanks. Your wife may blow the money on the garden, but mine spends the dough on the shoes. I'd say my hobby is cheaper. LOL

I guess I've been lucky (or blessed) with my wife of 35 yrs. She has almost always put up with my model building (there were times when we were young, had kids and having troubles making ends meet, that things got a little sticky).
Her attitude has always been "you enjoy it and you aren't out drinking and out chasing around". Besides there are hobbies out there that are one heck of a lot more expensive out there. But you have to do whatever you have to do in order to keep her. Besides I think my wife spends just about as much money on her garden.

If my wife doesn't get her 10-11 hours of sleep a night, the day is a total waste.

B. LeCren, I'm not sure how lucky I have it. I get off work in the early afternoon, come home, do laundry, cook dinner, do the shopping, mow the lawn, watch the daughter, vaccuum, etc. I'd say the wife has it made! She comes home, eats dinner, sometimes does the dishes, watches t.v. and goes to bed. Disapprove [V] To boot, she gets more sleep than I do and still complains she doesn't get enough! However, she has been prettty supportive of the hobby. When she saw me eyeing the Tamiya Panther kit w/pe parts, she said "just get it". As I always say, "She's the better half, because she puts up with me."

Hey, as my Dad-in-Law has taught me and My Bbrother -in -Law, "BOY'S IT'S EASIER TO GET FORGIVENESS THAN PERMISSION" . I feel bad reading some of these topics as I have a wife that say's " you better get 2 of what ever, they might run out" and she has even turned me loose in the hobby store with the last words being " if you see it and want it , get it". how can a plasticholic not be in heaven with those words ringing in thier ears. and for the guy who wasn't married yet, my wife knew what she was getting into ahead of time and still married me.
buy the kits you want, and enjoy the hobby.

The wife has it good and she knows it. 2 kids do all dishes and most laundry. What laundry they don't get done during the week,, I do while modeling (W&D are in basement w/ models). She cleans house one day a week and gets to Hula Hoop to the Monkees all she wants. When I'm not sleeping (I'm a 3rd shifter) that is.

Mrs. Tigerman:
I like to cook on the BBQ, I throw the dirty clothes in the washer and not on the floor, I load the dishwasher (even start it sometimes!), and wear thick socks to help with the floors.
Sounds like Tigerman lucked out.

Therriman, try buying the model for her as a gift, tell her you are giving her something very precious to you.
I'd like to hear if you get away with that!
Bruce

PS:
My wife buys me modelling stuff all the time, bless her!

I just had to reply to what my wife did. [:0] Blush [:I] I'm probably the first person to have their spouse actually reply to a topic. At first I thought she started her own thread. [:0][:0] After she told me what she did, we both just laughed. Big Smile [:D] It seems I left this thread up and walked away. She came to it later and obviously was intrigued by it. Sound advice from a wife in this forum. Now I'm scared that she may read some of my old posts. Sad [:(] Worse yet, she may start her own thread. Disapprove [V] She knows my passwords! Dead [xx(] Worse still.....she bought some more shoes today! Disapprove [V] However.......that means I get to buy another model that I have no time to build! Approve [^]

Therriman, It's just a model, it'll always be there.
Women are simply too precious to give up for plastic models. Besides, how hard can it be to wait a few months? Hell, I haven't bought a single kit in over three, despite an extreme desire to grab that 1/144 scale "Mavis" Japanese Flying Boat!!

Ok....if my husband finds out that I'm in here, he's gonna kill me. But I have a word or two to say. I think it's great that you guys have a hobby to keep you bizzy. What's wrong with spending $80 every so often on something that you really want? It's only money, you can't take it with you. Your kids won't remember the $80, but they will remember the really cool model you made and left to them.
Now, the subject of the wife.....besides the flowers and the toe rub, how about snuggling with the wife without "expecting" anything else. Wink [;)] Or how about making dinner, doing the dishes, cleaning the house, doing the laundry....that kinda stuff. My husband does all of this quite often. And I never mind when he buys a model here or there....as long as it was a really good bargain. I just wish he'd work on them a little bit more than sitting on this darn computer talking about it. Big Smile [:D]
Oh, and don't tell my husband that I bought a couple new pairs of shoes today. Wink [;)] But they were a bargain!!!

Mrs. Tigerman Kisses [:X]

Sorry fellas but you are assuming that, whatever therriman does, his wife will not see right through it. Women are like that, they can read us like books.

If you really want it, buy it, and then deal with the fall-out later. It's better in these situations to be reactive rather than proactive. Admittedly I've only been married just over a year so what do I know of the female mind?!?!

The biggest problem with the wife is she was of the "opinion" that having more models on hand than could be done right away was wrong. After showing her some previous topics about the hundreds or thousands of kits you guys have she has eased up a bit. But she still thinks I'm crazy for having ONLY 20 kits onhand (that's counting the ones I'm working on).Cool [8D]

therriman it's simple tell her you won it as a door prize at....model club/ model show/ online contest.
If that doesn't work you could always tell her the people a FineScale Modeler asked if you would build the kit and do a Workbench Review.

If that one works let me know I want to try it.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

Here's another thought that works for me. After 20 years of kit collecting I have some that I don't like as much anymore and I have a few extras from when I bought more than one of a particular subject. In order to make room for new kits on the shelves and in order to help pay for the new acquisitions, I simply sell some on ebay and then use the money to buy more! My wife doesn't keep track of my PayPal account, so what she doesn't know won't hurt me!!

i sit around the house and looked depressed, and when she ask me what wrong i look at her say nothing. Then a few days go by and she is tired of this and made the comment "Lets go to Hobby Lobby, i need some material". Gotch ya.
