Moving to Riverside, CA

Try Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair, CA. It is closer than Brookhurst. It is right off the 10 Freeway between Mountain and Central. Mostly an R/C shop, but they have a pretty good model selection, some aftermarket stuff. They also have a modelers club that meets on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

OK, gotta pitch in my 2 cents here. In addition to Brookhurst Hobbies (I live in OC as well), you will WANT to visit Military Hobbies in Orange (Taft/Glassell south east corner) and Military Shop in Long Beach (Palo Verde 1/4 mile south of 405 freeway). Both are also first rate Hobby Shops. They dont carry the gamer or diecast/collectable stuff like Brookhurst and are more modlebuilder oriented. There are also a couple decent shops I like to hit occasionally, "R" Hobbies in Whittier and The Model Shoppe in Old Torrance. Those two tend to have old stuff to suprise you with on accasion along with all teh current releases.

Northwoods is part of a chain of restaurants. There are two Northwoods, Covina and LaMirada and two Steak and Steins, Pico Rivera and not sure about the other. Northwoods is the casual version and Steak and Stein is the fine dining version. Both have the best dang steaks in the LA area. Excellent bartenders as well

There is also a Northwoods Inn in Pasadena on Rosemead south of Huntington. Great restaurant, little pricey, but huge portions.

I will have to check out the other hobbie shops stikpusher mentioned they are not too far from me. I am near Pasadena. There is a Hobby People in Pasadena, but they are mostly R/C and the plastics they have are primarily cars.

Has anybody here been to Legends (Dragon's outlet store) in Diamond Bar/Industry area? I have not been by there in a couple years. Traffic in that area is absolutely horrid.

I forgot about the other Northwoods Inn. Maybe that was the 4th one I was thinking of.

Unfortunately, Legends no longer exists  as a hobby shop you can walk into. Ther were in Diamond Plaza for awhile, then moved to a larger place on Colima Rd in a strip mall, then moved to a cubbyhole in the Puente Hills Mall that was 1/5th the size of their strip mall space.  That killed their business since they couldn't display even one fifth of the stuff they used to. Now, last I heard, they moved to a warehouse in City of Industry and had gone strictly Internet sales. I have no idea their internet address though, or if they are even still in business. It's too bad too. That was my favorite shop to shop at while they were in the larger digs. But the owner made a bad call mnoving to the Mall and paid for it. He'd have been better off keeping the larger place in business and opening up the branch in the Mall, but he didn't think. 

There is another great Hobby Shop in Hacienda Heights area if you want to check it out: Tony's Hobbies and Toys. He has some R/C stuff, but also carries a HUGE selection of plastic, and is geared toward modelers as well. One of my favorite places to shop!

Where is the shop in Hacienda Heights? I may have to roll up that way on my days off next week... it will be a payday weekend after all I went to the first two Legends places occasionally from they time they opened up. I really did love that shop, especially the dioramas and such. But I never visited the mall store. I have not been up in that area since I came back from overseas. Sad to hear of losing another good LHS. But at least it sounds like another has emerged to fill the gap.

Actually stopped in at the Military Shop out in Long Beach this afternoon! Wow, i missed it twice getting there because i had to blink (it's that small!) Didn't seem to be a whole lot of a selection for aircraft in 1/48 scale, but they had some good references there, which is always welcomed! What impressed me the most was the completed builds in the display cases they had there! Whoa! Museum quality there, and it makes me wonder if the owner/builder actually posts on here. Some of em looked familiar....

Also the Veterans 25% discount this weekend was much appreciated too! Y'all better dust off your ID cards and DD214s!

Well i guess that musta been him!!!! Didn't have the beard, but had the receding hairline. I did notice his posture in the arms was a little off. I wondered if maybe he had been recovering from an accident, or maybe i'm just imagining things. Good to know. Still wonder if he posts here somewhere. I swear some of those builds look familiar....

And next time, i'm gonna have to take a look at his stash in the back. It looks like he tends to favor 1/32 scale in aircraft. But there are still alotta kits out there OOP that i would love to get my hands on...

Ahhh, ok. I kinda figured it might've been an injury. But being the new face, i'm sure it wouldn't have been appropriate to ask. Nonetheless, i'll probably wait until i'm a little bit more of a regular before i start asking him about the "stash room". If nothing else, it would be fun just to see what he has back there....

And no, i didn't know about the show on the 22nd! When? Where? and How much? I'd love to go to that! Especially since i wasn't able to attend the IPMS Convention right down the street last August...

Desert Rat, Gulfstream, I will most likely be going to that Keller show too. If IPMS Orange County has a table there, I'll be manning it and I'll have some of my models on display too. If not, I'll go for the company and camaraderie of talking with fellow modelers. I'll be the average-sized fat, bald guy with glasses most likely wearing either an Orange County IPMS shirt or a LEM shirt. If I'm at the table, stop by to say 'hey'. Desert Rat, the show usually costs five dollars to get in but there are some great deals to be had too.

Duke, apologies for the early exit Friday night, but I had to go pick up one of my kids from a school event. The joys of parenting.

While i can't guarentee that i'll be there, i'll definately be giving it my best shot! Always good to go and see other builds close up. Of course the deals are a good attraction too!

If i do go, likely i'll be wearing a collared shirt with vertical stripes. Kinda generic, i know. But if i'm there, chances are good i'll be raiding your table!

Hmmm, maybe i should write "DesertRat" on my forehead too! Rest assured y'all will see me then!
