As the handle implies, I fish. Lots. Mostly for bass. I also rebuild/repair and collect fishing reels and do some custom crankbait painting. (I clearcoat them with Future, of courseTongue [:P]) I try to tie flies but they turn out looking more like lintballs strapped to a fishhook. -and as if this already dosen't look like HistoryInScale's post, my wife is also a Girl Scout troop leader. Which is odd considering that she screams everytime she sees a cricket.

Or a lintball.

The only other real hobbies I have are Warhammer (which can technically be linked to models), sports cards (Football and Baseball), and computers. I've always had a policy: no more than one vice to a customer, please. I guess my wife and kids could be considered a hobby, too.

Trains!

I have always modelled both trains and military, I just view them as large dioramas with moving models!

The only other thing I do that could even vaguely be seen as a hobby is excercise, I don't have time for much else!!

Currently on the bench: AZ Models 1/72 Mig 17PF

Shermanfreak, you're just too much my friend... LOL...

As far as I'm concerned, I do not really collect any stuff but I do buy and read graphic novels (comic strips, the Belgian or French way), and I do some face/body painting, including with my airbrushes, as well as henna.

WOW , there are alot of real interesting hobbys here. Sounds like many will have more to talk about at the Convention than modeling. I really like the sound of "body painting" :) Ofcourse, Id probably be getting slapped quite a bit if I tried that ;) Ive also been wanting to get into restoring some kind of old car, but living in a dinky apartment makes it a little hard. Does anyone do car graphics painting? Like pictures? I was really wanting to try that, but Im not sure what kind of paints to use , or sealers. Does anyone know?

I do Warhammer (hey demono, which armies do you have? I have Dwarf and Khemri and do 40k as well) nature photography, astronomy, play music (guitar, banjo, piano and cello, mostly) and do R/C planes and boats (I guess this counts as modeling but it's very different from plastic) and railroading (same comment).

My father (also a very talented modeler of wooden ships) said I need to cut my hobbies down to about 50-60.[:0]Approve [^]Big Smile [:D]

Hey, it's looking like we could get together and play some Warhammer while we're there. Smile [:)]

I got into it during 5th Edition when the boxed set contained Lizardmen and Brettonians. I bought the boxed set and a bunch of Army books. After a couple years of not doing much with it, I'm ready to get back into it and they come out with 6th Edition -- new rules, new boxed set and new Army books. Black Eye [B)]

I wish I would have waited -- the 6th Edition boxed set comes with Empire and Orcs/Goblin troops. Oh well. Smile [:)]

I don't have the space to list all of my hobbies. I collect guns, only military style though, I'm an amatuer stargazer, I fish, only for catfish though: when bass start getting up close to 100lbs I'll start fishing for them too. And of course airplanes!!! I also like reading and music and I listen to everything from Classical to Heavy Metal (Beethoven to Metallica) Here recently I've been collecting cats (or have they been collecting me?) with a recent addition of six beautiful kittens. Fortunately I'm moving out to the countryside in NE Texas so my animals won't be a problem. I also occasionally play video games (love Rush2), Card games (Rummy is fun, when I win) and here recently my wife introduced me to a PC game called Diablo II that I'm enjoying almost as much as Warcraft!! My Mother says I need to start acting my age and not my shoe size!!! (I'm 40 and I wear a size 14 shoe)

Hey all,
You mean there are other hobbies besides modelling??..Black Eye [B)]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)].
Other than modelling, I collect vintage WWII a/c photographs(sometimes rareSmile [:)]). Almost nearing 200 prints..!!
I also like collecting a/c parts from all eras including shells. This may come close to my main interest of building but I'm a HUGE fan of the Vette, so anything I see that pertains to the orig American sports car, its mineTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)].
I also belong to a restoration group that retore vintage civilian a/c as well as WWII a/cSmile [:)]
O yea did I mention CHEESE CAKE tooTongue [:P]Blush [:I].
Flaps up, Mike

Paul,
As far as fantasy goes, I have about 10,000 points of Chaos (Khorne) and my wife plays Gobbos. I also have a 2,000 Eldar 40k army. I would be honored to have a bit of a "Fatal 4-Way" with you, my wife, and David, if you're both interested. It could turn out to be an interesting battle. Say, 3,000 each in Fantasy?

Hobbies? We don't need no stinkin hobbies!Wink [;)]
Horses. I live on 11 acres and get to use about 100K. I've found over the years that horses are a lifestyle not a hobby. Being "retired" just means I get to go to work at my house!Smile [:)] Modeling suffers in the spring and summer, but now that the snow is getting ready to blow and the wood is in............
My grandaughter who lives with me started on the high school golf team last spring (hasen't kicked my butt yet, but she's almost there.....I keep scoreBig Smile [:D]) so we'll be into that big time this spring. Then theres hunting and fishing & rose bushes.

Hey everyone!!

Besides modelling, which is still pretty new to me, I play guitar, (mostly acoustic), collect cd's, (up to around 500, everything from Beatles to Smiths, to Paul Simon to Dandy Warhols). I also collect retro console video games, ie, Sega Master System, Genesis, etc. I'm also an avid reader.

Cheers.

I can't see enough Sci-Fi and Horror movies. I've threatened to take up Warhammer 40K but all my fiends like the fantasy version, oh well. Last but not least I run a weekly D&D game. Cool [8D]

I have way too many expensive hobbies. Modelling is great because you don't have to spend a ton of money to have fun. My others include: shooting, guitar tinkering ( playing and building / modifying ), travelling, boomerang throwing. That last one is also pretty inexpensive and much fun. You can get a really good boomerang for under $25. You might think it is anti-social as hobbies go but they really draw a crowd when you break them out at the park!

Computer wargaming (which got me into modeling the tanks) and collecting Coke items. Other than that, working and taking care of wife and dog, no time left for anything else:-)

Other than models and figs:
I belong to several re-enactment and rec-reational historical groups. Interpreting 13thc. English Knight during the Welsh and Scottish wars with Edward I, 15thc. Lancastrian soldier during the War of the Roses and I am part of a English Naval gun crew and Press gang in St. Augustine from the HMS Falcon. (do interpretive programs and fire the cannons at the Castillo and we just released our first cd of sea chanties)
I also build furniture, train my dogs (have 3 german shepards) in agility and schutzhund, play the guitar, paintball, scuba dive and if it can be called a hobby, tinker in my workshop.

Wow, I just realized why my wifes honey do list is so long......

Oh, lets see. Fishing, hunting, fishing, photography, fishing, military patch collection, fishing, flying and fishing. I only hunt during deer season now. When I was younger, I would hunt almost every weekend during the season and go fishing after the season closed. Northwest Florida isn't the best deer hunting area, but, it is great for fishing.

My "other" hobby is vintage auto restoration.
You'd be amazed at just how similar scale modelling and auto restoration actually are.
But at the end of a project, you gotta pay for oil, petrol, insurance, registration..........
When I finish a model, all I gotta do is keep the dust off it.

Wow. Anyone who thinks that model kit builders are shut-in geeks ought to look at this thread.

I study aikido -- it's a Japanese martial art that is similar to judo.

I used to shoot competitively in college, but now I just shoot for fun; though I haven't shot much in the last couple of years.

I play computer games, mostly flight simulators. I'm planning on getting my pilot's license and then building a replica of a World War I fighter.

I'm in the church choir and I may end up on the church council.

My wife and I are buying a house this week. So my new hobby will probably be "fixing my house." Smile [:)]

I enjoy playing board games with my wfie and some friends.

My wife and I are also members of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA. We volunteer for their WWII weekend each year and I help update the web site.

Regards,

-Drew

Well, besides modeling, I run in a computer NASCAR league. We use Papyrus' NASCAR Racing 2003 season. Yes, a bunch of grown ups racing around the track.

It's a blast!

Wow. I envy you guys; I'm lucky to scrape just a few hours together each week for modeling. And if I'm REALLY lucky I'll be able to read three or four books a year (my "other" hobby) What kind? Tom Clancy, of course! (I made it through "Rainbow Six" in a month!) and various sci-fi.

Hi everyone,
My other hobbies are model railroading(HO scale) and
restoring and operating antique farm tractors.
LeeTree's right there are many similarities between working
on antique tractors / vehicles and modeling .The most important one
is the great people you meet .Plus they're really fun!Big Smile [:D]
