Workbench/Desks complete!

Outstanding, What did you use for materials ? This looks way nicer then most of the Office Furnishings   my Wife and I looked at last year. I like the fact that it is in sections. I would be afraid to build models on it, Plus it looks "Splinter" free - Now what kind of excitement can you get out of that ? Only thing for me it is missing a back board to attach items and paint shelves to.  Very well done for your first carpentry project, perhaps you should become a "wood shop " teacher

Thanks for looking, and for the kind words! Believe it or not its just Lowe's-grade untreated plywood, 2x4s and 4x4s.  It took quite a bit of stain to cover it all, but it turned out pretty well, and with a coat of tung oil, its really durable!  I picked up a bunch of cutting mats at Michaels for 60% off, so I have plenty of things to protect it with.  I plan to put up some shelves, and a backing eventually.  I'm thinking pegboard, but I'm not sure. Its still a work in progress.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. After thinking about it some, does anyone know where I can get a large pegboard (4'x8')? Do lumberyards carry that type of thing anymore, or has it all been replaced with MDF shelves and plastic? I've got more ideas than you can shake a stick at.

Also, since I am an engineer, I (of course) made detailed plans for these suckers. If anyone wants some inspiration, or just to see how I built them, let me know, and I'll send the drawing your way. They are currently in .dwg format (Autocad), but I can convert them into regular images or another sort of drawing file. Consider it thanks for all the help I've gotten on everything from all of you.

Yes, Home Depot carries 4x8 pegboard, in plain brown and white colors. And it is affordable...it is hanging behind all of the workbenches in my garage.

Very nice work on your "bench" area!   Shows what can be done with a bit of thought and some relatively inexpensive material (compared to storebought furniture).  Give some thought to picking up some of those OTT Lights to aid in illumination.  They work great and provide a daylight effect.  I get mine at Michaels with the sale coupons.  When you put up your pegboard I'd advise a 2" X 2" framework on the wallside to provide hook room and for running any wires that you may add in the future for "gadgets".  Happy building!!
