Tim’s a fan of the BAC Lightning F.2A. He painted Trumpeter’s 1/72 scale plane with Alclad polished aluminum and dark aluminum lacquers, used Testors Model Master acrylic insignia blue on the tail, then applied Gunze Sangyo acrylic oils and India Ink with a fine brush for weathering. He says, “This jet fascinates me. The Royal Air Force intended to phase it out after 1964. Yet they kept flying it until 1988 despite fuel leaks, a poor gunsight, poor fuel capacity, and a tendency to catch fire that earned it the nickname ‘Frightening.’ Still, it was a truly impressive interceptor.”
