Fred built Hobbycraft’s 1/72 scale C-7A Caribou, painting and marking it as a YAC-1, “one of the four prototypes provided to the U.S. Army,” he says. “I built it as a gift for 1st Sgt. Art Thornburgh, who was the flight engineer for that aircraft during its entire Silver Eagles tour. I presented the model to him under the wing of the actual aircraft he flew in, now repainted olive drab and on display at the U.S. Army Aviation Museum, Ft. Rucker, Ala.”
