Dean Summers
Keller, Texas
Building Academy’s 1/35 scale M1A2 Tusk II, Dean says, “I wanted to make it look like pics I have seen from the Iraq 2009 campaigns.” After consulting his fellows on the forum at FineScale.com, he painted it with Testors Model Master sand (FS33531). Then he went to town on the details, using tracks from Trumpeter, extra-gear bags from Tamiya sets, and ice chests and water coolers from Def.Models. He says, “I thought the coolers added a touch of realism. I made thin strips of Tamiya tape and strapped everything down. I also hung the spare bogie wheels with brass rod. I've seen pics of tankers putting their bedrolls on the antenna risers, so I did that here as well.”
