So far, so great, Troy.
I, personally, can't wait to see the finished bird.
Just remember who suggested that you to go for it on the USCG scheme. Big Smile [:D] Cool [8D] Wink [;)] Whistling [:-^]

For Frelon detail shots, look out for a film called 'The Beast'. It's about a Russian tank crew in Afghanistan. In the end a Frelon comes to rescue them, There are quite a few close up shots of the Frelon, which may help you. By the by, it's an Israeli Frelon, not sure what mark, painted up with red stars. There are another couple of films with the same name, so it could take some time to find.

Papa-Echo-64,
I tied the rope in the front to the tie-down shackle on the nose of the aircraft. The rear is tied to the support strut for the horizontal stabilizer of the folded tail section. The portion on the rotor blade is a piece of masking tape about 1/32 " wide painted orange that loosely goes around the rotor blade and then secures to the rope that is tied off to the fusalage. Hope this helps. Also, the tail fold was pretty easy. It is folded just like the photo of the SH-3 in the post here.

Troy,

You've probably already seen this website, but thought I'd pass it along anyhow, as it has some great info on the Super Frelon.

Howdy Fellas,

New guy here, name's Tread.

A pal of mine HeavyArty (Gino) turned me on to this thread (and this site).
I came across the exact same kit at my LHS just yesterday. The 1/35th scale Heller/Humbrol Super Frelon, and have read this thread with interest!

I have several project's in the work's at the moment, but, being a big fan of large scale helo kits.......I'm going to LOVE this one!
AND....Papa-Echo. I really enjoyed reading about your build-up, and must say your final result looks superb!! I can only hope I do half as good a job on mine.....;-)

Any and all input that might help me along on my 'Frelon' quest would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Tread.

Howdy Tread! and welcome to our little helo corner! Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

You may want to hold off a bit....Heller is re-releasing the Super Frelon kit sometime this year with an upgraded cockpit and kit improvements throughout!

This kit is not for the weak at heart as it is or wuz and it will be worth the wait....as long as they don't charge a lot of BIG BUCKS for it!

but.....if you want to dive right in.....just e-mail me with any questions you might have!

seeya!

Troy

Here are photos of mine, enjoy. I didn't think it was that bad to build. I really enjoyed it and liked all the extra areas to add details to.

NO CONTEST!! Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

I could not figure out the folded roter thing....did the most foward roters move up or down to clear the hub arms?

This project was very well researched and executed!!....NICE WORK!!!

Papa-Echo-64, forward most rotors fold down under the next set of rotors. I just used the diagram you have in the post to fold them. Really wasn't that difficult. I like how it turned out.

PE-64, hello!

As an israeli may I suggest you to build it as an israeli Superferlon?
It had beautifull 3 colour sand, green, brown camo over light grey.
If you would like more info I'll try to get it for you.
Cheers!

Howdy ShModeler,

I certainly don't mean to 'bogart' a thread that is not mine, but I am building the Super Frelon and am considering paint schemes as we speak. In fact (as I stated), one of the schemes I have been considering IS the IAF paint scheme!

So, if your kind and generous offer of help extends to others as well as Papa-Echo, I would be quite appreciative of that "info" of which you speak.

Many thx.

Tread. :-)

Thanks for sharing. You do not see many of these built. Nice job looks busy with the rotors folded. I've been looking out for one of these.

Howdy Chuck! You can get these on ebay from time to time....30.00 to 60.00 .....BUT! Heller has been talking about a re-release this year with a badly needed cockpit and other updates.

Gosh, that is good news, I know I saw an Exocet version about 12 years ago
in War & Pieces Hobbyshop in Connecticutt. Should've picked it up back then.
But got the Tamiya Dambuster kit instead at the time which was heavy on the pocket book as it is.
