Which UH-1B kit are you building and what markings are they? I am pretty sure the standard US color on Huey interiors is Gull Gray. At least until the late 80s when black came into usage in cockpits due to NVG flying.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I understand that, but many times the instruction manuals in kits are incorrect. What markings and time frame are those with the kit? US Army Vietnam? Tamiya has a light gray color that would work, but it is not an exact match for the Gull Gray used on modern US aicraft interiors.Tamiya's Olive Drab is a bit dark for the OD used on Hueys, but you could lighten it up with Buff to get a more accurate shade.
Yes, Model Master makes both of the proper shades needed for a US Army Huey during most of their service lifetime- Olive Drab FS# 34087 for the exterior, and Dark Gull Gray FS# 36231for the interior.
my UH-1N in air rescue was flat black. det 6 40th ar\rs holoman afb
What time frame was that when you served on UH-1Ns? Just for reference. Was the entire cabin interior in flat black?
yep all black, except the rescue gear and hoist equipment. and 1986 till we were shut down
I presume you guys did a bit of NVG work? I was riding around occasionally as cargo in Army H models at that time. Those were still in all gray inside.
I have found that the color of Mr. Surfacer 1000 or 1200 is just about perfect for the interior color of a pre-NVG Huey. At least to me and I have built about 6 of em.

Yeah, that stuff is pretty close to Interior/Dark Gull Gray.
For the gray insides of Hueys, I use a cheap, Wal-Mart brand primer gray in a spray can. It looks right on to me.

light gull gray is correct for Vietnam era Huey's. Testors has it in both brush and spray.
