2 new 1/35 CH-54 Tarhe's

If anyone ever runs into a build in progress please post it up. I have yet to see one other than a small bit on The Modeling News site way back when. This kit has to be and absolute wonder for those that have the skills and patience to go all out.

I, too, have been collecting AM parts for my copy, too.  Just got the Reskit bits in.  3-D printed, so much of the details of the parts are hidden behind printing stands, but what you can see is impressive!  

No start date for me, though.  Although I DO plan to do it, I have other non-modeling projects in the way.  In the meantime, like you, I can collect parts and see what comes up.  

But it would look real funny if modeled as flying with folded rotors (smile.. tee-hee).

They also make a complete assembly in flight position and the details (all wires and plumbing) are eye watering. Eduard has numerous PE sets and Quinta and others have 3D sets for the cockpit. You already mentioned it but just to repeat, they have cast and brass landing gear too.

Along with the after-market for the Tarhe, they also are selling pilots and other things to use as cargo, one example would be a period appropriate Connex. It would be interesting to see a resin conversion for one of the civilian Erickson fire fighting units. The colors of the civilian birds are impressive and would be impactful in scale. 

I was planning on building mine next but may wait a little longer to see what all comes available for it.

For those who have this kit, I wanted to let those know that ResKit, in Ukraine, have released their resin folded rotor kit.  It looks amazing.  I have one on order now.  I'm not paid for any of this in any way, just wanted to let those who have one know.  It'll take up a LOT less space with the rotor blades folded!!  

I can only just imagine the builds I might see of this thing down the road by people who are light years ahead of me. I'm pretty much out of the box and I get antsy seeing over 10 pieces of PE!

There's a gentleman in the UK who has a yuutoob channel called 'Nigel's Modeling Bench' who did a OOB build of one of these that ICM sent him.  His WIP video took 13 ~1 hour episodes to complete!  While he mentioned that most of the parts fit together rather well, the instructions left a fair amount too be desired, at least in the order of assembly.  My instruction book for this thing has copious notes, since I will probably have forgotten many of his comments.

Yes, it is a beast!  He kept banging the nose or the tail on his video setup while showing things about the kit he was doing.  AM bits are starting to come in, and it's HIGHLY recommended you replace the plastic gear with brass bits that are already on the market.

Thinking about this thing again last night I couldn't help envisioning some show stopping dioarama. This beast lifting a 1/35 M-107 from a FSB. Shame it's above it's payload but it has to be something a plain Jane Chinook can not handle.

Yeah, I was indecisive when they were first announced, especially since my surgery, and the company I worked for for 16 years going bankrupt, putting me out of a steady paycheck.  After thinking it over, and discussing the matter with my financial advisor, she said 'yes!', I went ahead and put in for the pre-order.  About two weeks later, they said the order is enroute to the US, so pay up, please.  I figured I needed to put my money where my mouth was. 

Anyway, let's see if I can post up the pictures:

I don't remember if these things had foldable main rotor blades, but if they do, I hope someone does a 3D or PE kit of it, because I'd probably build it folded to save some space.  

I remember there was a company that brought one out to our local municipal airport to do work on it converting it to a firefighting bird.  They did NOT have the blades folded.  We had a freak storm come though the area, which spawned what was determined to be a force 1 tornado that flipped it on it's back.  I think they got it flipped back over, but it disappeared shortly afterward, so I don't have any idea what happened.  Hopefully, it wasn't totaled.  The thing was huge!  

NO where close to being able to begin on this thing but I'm almost afraid to not spend before they retire them.

My friend in the Brown Truck just handed over my ICM copy.  It's big!  Actually in two boxes.  Looks like one is for the fuselage and the other is for all the other bits.  The box for the old Revell version of this bird, which I also have, would easily fit inside of one of the boxes of this kit!    Details look nice.  The instruction book is 36 pages.  

Since I'm still recouping from shoulder surgery, and have several other projects to finish up, it may be a while before I get to this one.  I may also wait to see if any PE/resin come out for this one, even though it looks pretty complete, and well-detailed.  

Got it from Squadron.  I got in on the pre-order late, but figured if I really wanted one of these, I better jump in, just in case.  I have no idea where the plastic is molded, but ICM is a Ukranian company with a Kyiv address, so I figured it was a good idea to try to get a copy of the 'first pressing'.  

I'd settle for a 1/72nd kit because I really don't have the room.  But I would also like a H-43 Pedro set for Vietnam A>F. rescue with its fire suppression pack.

I saw that too.  Pretty cool.  I hope the scale this down to 1/48

I just watched an animated video of this prehistoric dragonfly being built. 30" long and I can't wait to see some builds of this monster by folks light years ahead of me regarding details and weathering. I only saw one once up close getting 155 ammo rigged to be sent out to a FSB. Impressive!

After doing the Math.It will be a large scale plase( HELO) rotor span.large scale plane.

Good news for a rare subject.In 1/35th scale the detail would look great like the other chopper's from ICM.I will get one,and after I perform surgery on it ;It will look  Like It landed in VietNam.

I used to see those things fly in and out of Picatinny Arsennal all the time when I was in High School.  They were a sight to see.

I'm curious how long before somebody pumps out a 1/35 Skycrane pod.  I know they weren't successful, but they look cool in a 60's sci fi way and I wants one.

They look to be well represented at those sites.  Poking around the Tarhe won't be available til Q3 so put on the xmas list.

 

I'll keep an eye out then. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two offerings other than the payload. 

The rotor area will be the size of a pizza!  That be huge - coming from a guy who just got an Airfix Vulcan.

I don't want to be the guy who cries it's the wrong scale etc, so I'll just grab a chair and ready some popcorn.
