Looking for 35th scale OH-6A

I remember reading a magazine (Air Warrior??) in 1991 that featured your chopper after a gentleman from southern California somehow bought a militarized OH-6A (first and only one that I know of). I was going to post that you were the lucky pilot! I saw "your chopper" one several awards at Oshgosh as well. I still have the magazine, but have put off building one with your markings- why I don't know!

I spoke to Lou about a year and a half ago when I bought the original art for his "#1 Du Me Mi" profile on the back of the "Gunslingers" book. directly from him. Just picked up his "Operation Enduring Freedom" book from Squadron. Good stuff!

I just ran a cursory search of www.udisco.com it's "Canada's Largest Hobby Store On-Line"

I have had some success in the past that when you can't find a kit that has been "out of production" they tend to have some hidden away. Their prices are really good and for American buyers definitely cheaper.

The web listing shows no OH-6A Cayuse with crew in stock, however I have sent an email to their question and answer guys and sometimes you get a great surprise and find the kit you're looking for.

The website also shows some of the other kits mentioned above as being available. There are lots of other manufacturers and sections other than kits on the site. Check it out.

Welcome to the forum. It is a distinct honour. I too like many have said here read "Low Level Hell" and "Gunslingers in Action" was the first model reference book I ever owned. It's a very ratty and beat up copy now but still a great read and reference.

Welcome! It's a pleasure having you with us. I'm a proud owner of "Low Level Hell" and "Gun Slingers in Action" was the first Squadron book I ever bought. Speaking of that, have you heard from Lou lately? My first experiences with Squadron / Signal was helping him on the "Huey" book ... what a great guy and talented artist. By the way, it looks like your aircraft on display at the museum has some antennas on it that would have been post Vietnam. Is that the case?

You are correct L-J . Any mark after the 500D will have the "chin" canopy , exceot purpose built military types . But if you can score an OH-6A , then you'll have that , plus some crew ! Even better , see if you can score an I.D.F. "DEFENDER" kit ( don't know * , spare kit was sent to SALBANDO ) , it has the T-tail AND the egg canopy !

THe few MD-500 kits that I've seen lately have the wrong canopy on them, the pointed nose and not the dome version that is seen on the Killer Egg, but thanks for the idea. I've got an AH-6 on order with Roll Models, now just waiting on delivery.

Welcome Mr. Mills ! I had the honor to see you "work " Miss Claude while in country once . But , being a USAF PJ , only got to crew on H-43s , HH-3s , and HH-53s . I did get a few rides in the Cayuse by some thankful "Loach Drivers" ! It is an honor to have you at this forum , sir !

Now guys , if you can't wait for the "killer egg" to appear , there IS a way to convert to it easily . The Hughes/MDD 500 series DML kits are designed quite simply . Fusalage and basic interior are the same moldings , what changes are the tailboom ( which is a separate assembly ) , skids , canopy , and other bits that designate that particular mark . So if you can find the OH-6A ( for the body/canopy ) , then secure one of the other kits for the T-tail and 5 rotor mast , etc . !

Also don't forget , the L.A. Sheriff kit ( *6504 ) comes with 2 crew members . Mr. Mills as the pilot , and a sniper adorned with a watchcap and M700 scoped rifle .

Got my copy of "Gunslingers in Action" sitting right here next to the computer with my "AH-1 Cobra in Action" and "UH-1 Huey in Action".
Just may have to reread those stories. I'm getting ready to do some serious Bell construction. Now, I may have to include a Hughs!!!

Read his book Low Level Hell, and Visit the Army Aviation Museum in Ft. Rucker Alabama, it is there!

He is still a bubba, still flys OH-6s and recommnends the Dragon kit.
