The Army is no longer flying the Cobra, sadly. As for the Marines, from what I know (Supercobra, back me up here) they only fly the W model now. The one you saw was most likely one of the new firebomber conversions like the pics above.

The top picture you posted is very close to what I saw. I just caught a glimpse of it, but enough to know it was a Cobra and the tail boom was red. You are probably right about the USMC Sea Cobras and National Guard. There are a lot of Guard helos around here, but it's been a lot of years since I saw a Cobra.

Thanks for the pix and the help. I appreciate the input.

I don't know about the Army but I believe the USMC still fly them, probably national guard too. Some are being converted to firefighting uses which could explain colorful ones.

Cobras Still Flying?

Is the Army still flying any Cobras? I though they had all been scrapped for the Apache by now. I was walking back into my office a while ago and heard one. Couldn't figure out what it was at first, it's been so long since I heard one. Finally caught a glimpse of it before it got behind some trees and it was red and white (or possibly red, white, and blue). Guess it could have been sold to a civilian, but since Nashville is so close to Ft. Campbell, KY I suspect it was still military.

Still, it was good to hear one again. When I lived in Clarksville we were right under the training routes. Many nights I'd hear them flying around in formation, and there is no sound like it Smile [:)]
