Yep, that's a 3rd ACR bird. There's another shot of her on AKO today. Wish I'd had those shots when I was doing the book!

She's from Renegade Troop, one of the 3rd ACR's three Apache Troops (companies). I'm trying to get a tail number for this bird, but haven't found one yet. She's an AH-64D (DWO) so she never had a Longbow Radar.

Interesting note on the weapons loadout. She's carrying two full rocket pods, with the center 3 rockets being "nails"; only carrying a single Hellfire for engaging vehicles or buildings; and most likely has a full cannon magazine. The "nails" are antipersonnel rockets that contain 2200 steel flechettes (basically an inch and a half long nail with fins on the end) that saturate a football field-sized area with high speed steel darts. Really nasty if you're on the receiving end of it. If that's not optimized for Counter Insurgency, I don't know what is!

Here's another shot of it!

That bird parked right next to me in the fuel pits the other day. At least I think it was that bird. It looked like a gray shark mouth though. I took a few pictures. I had to be discreet about it though because I didn't want it to look like a Cobra pilot was admiring an Apache. I'll see if I can zoom in on the tail number in the pictures. It's hard with that paint scheme.

Supercobra,

Too cool! Hope all's well over there. I won't tell anyone that you were admiring an Apache... Big Smile [:D]

Supercobra,

When you were taking a picture (but not admiring) that Apache, did you look anything like this? (Assuming I can get the picture to show up here.)

I'll admit, I fly Longbows, but admire Cobras. I'd almost sell my soul to get my hands on a Zulu.

BTW, thanks to Ron George for a place to put photos.

Supercobra,

I'm an artist with the American Society of Aviation Artists. I'd be interested in doing a commemorative print of your Snakes in action. Could you email me at GunfighterGraphics@hotmail.com?

Everyone else my already know this but I just figured out how to get a lead on the "red X" - right click on the X and go to properties. That will show you what website to go to.

Glider - I couldn't find the pictures on the site but judging from the title of the picture, I've been there but where I saw the Apache at was at a different FARP.

I looked at my pictures and it is the same aircraft but you can't tell what side number it is.

MBT70 - email sent.

Finally!

I can't zoom in but enough to tell but if the guy in the back seat has a black helmet cover - that's me.

SuperCobra ... got your note ... and it looks like I have one photo already from this forum. Is your tail number 27?

Maybe we need to start some inter-service pilot familiarization flights
