Bell 207 Pics
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Monday, January 23, 2006 7:46 PM

Hey guys!

I found some original Bell 207 photos today.  Really good detail and structure stuff, plus a small set of blueprints.  I haven't scanned in the print yet, but all of the good photos are here!

You're not kidding!  Someone with shoulders like mine has no place in the front seat of that thing!  It felt like had to angle in because my shoulders would hit the door frame!  VERY tight fit.  Give me an Apache cockpit any day!

Jon -
You have a hard time fitting in there? When I come down for a visit, we need to get a picture of me sitting in it. That ought to be good for a couple of laughs.

Just took some more pics of the 207, including one of me in the gunner's seat!  I'm in the Library now, but will post them tonight when I get home.

Ok, as promised, here's a bunch more shots of the 207. I saved the best for last!

I think I was more giddy than anything.  The seat was pretty comfortable, but it was a little claustrophobic in there.

Very nice pics Jon. Does look a little cramped. Kinda sad to see all that helicopter history hidden away though.

Glad the seat was comfortable, not much room to allow any more comfort in.

Keith,

I agree with you.  I was amazed at the aircraft locked away in storage.  Some really significant pieces.  Problem is, the museum's primary focus is the types that have served or are serving operationally.  They are trying to get Phase 2 off the ground within the next few years, but raising the money for a new building is difficult.  Phase 2 will be the "Technology" hangar and the centerpiece will be the Comanche and Cheyenne nose to nose.

As far as the 207 goes, I was pretty amazed to see it had a cyclic and collective in the front cockpit, but no antitorque pedals!  How the heck would you maintain control????!!!!

Jon,

Is it true they have another Cheyenne hidden away over there too?

As for the antitorque, just throw open the door, that should slow down your spinThumbs Up [tup].

Really need to get back to Mother Rucker and see the museum, haven't been there since 1968, would like to brouse through the storage sites

keok3, check out the AH-56A thread, I posted a list of what happened to the Cheyenne airframes as of 2000

Jon, I know some helo will streanline(know the Huey will at 60knots or betterand I think the 58 will also, know we lost one when our maintance officer was practicing a running landing and caught a skid and rolled the helo, no injuries but ruined a 3 year safety record) if you maintan a min airspeed, may be the case with the enclosed boom on the Scout, either that or the backseater would control the tailrotor, but I think that would be hard to co-ordinate

John,

Guess that makes sense.  Crew coordination would have to be beyond precise!

Keith,

Yep, 66-8830 is in Triple R-P.  It is in MUCH better condition than 832 which is outside the museum, and 830 is fully armed in the production configuration.  Got to see her briefly during my first visit over there.  I'm hoping to get back over there to take some cockpit interior shots.  We'll see!

Thanks John and Jon for the above info. Another thank you to you Jon for the KW#1 info at the museum. I know you let me know about it at another discussion but I can't find it right now. Maybe it was over at ARC. I ran over there before work and took several photos of it. It made me laugh though, someone put the MMS on wrong, the cooling intake tube is turned 45 degrees to the right when it should be centered forward. Alot of weird things on it that I am not used to seeing.

Thanks again for the info John and Jon.Thumbs Up [tup]
