NEW!! ...1/35 Chinook photo UPDATE!
Posted by Papa-Echo-64 on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 2:15 AM

I started Sunday night....man with acrylics you can paint like a wild man! and they DRY FAST! and I WILL finish it by the 7th of April '06' for a local Contest on the 8th.

It's out of the box and so far the kit is going together very well.  After this pic was taken I weathed ( for lack of better words ) the cockpit floor to bring out the panel lines and details.  I washed all the sound proofing with a water / black chaulk dust mix....it really brought out the diamond pattern!

The kit really does need a PE consol...the thickness of the clear consol pretty much hides the film gauges and such.

Enjoy! and yes I know that some of the tones or wrong....I'm just having fun with this one!

Lookin good!  They've got em over at the PX, but they're $149.  I may have to cave in one of these days, especially after the bird I saw today as I was coming in to Cairns.  Not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure it was a brand new CH-47F.  It was the cleanest, most pristine Hook I've ever seen...

... and it was desert tan!

Looking good Papa, keep us posted. You'll most likely be the first member here on the FSM forum to finish the new Hook.
Finishing this monster by April 8th is a huge undertaking....I wish I could complete any project that quickly, haha.

Thanks Snake!

Funny thing is..... its not my norm at all.....I'm known in our local club as a 'one year guy'

Right now I'm painting the exterior of the Hook so masking over doors and windows later will be easir.

LT, that was an F model.  The Army & Boieng are trying out some new color combinations because dark helo drab really stands out in the desert.  A guy from my unit took some pics of a desert camo -47 that was helping out in New Orleans.  This one had medium brown sides with tan upper surfaces.

Chris,

Yep!  I was riding shotgun when we came into Cairns today, so I got a good look at it.  It was CH-47F 98-0002.  Saw a couple interesting Hawks as well.

Here are two more pics!....would have been more but i'm low on batteries...RATS!

The gun is just placed for the pic nothing is glued yet except the avionics and cockpit assy. I used an M60 with hand unit cuz the 50 cal I have has the wrong barrel....to long and wrong jacket.

A simple and much needed detail item that the kit 'should' have provided ....if at least that! ...I will add the hydraulic unit for the ramp later.

Forgive me if I do not respond in a timely manor...I'm out in the field working on my residential Journeymans card...no PC .....but it feels great to be doing REAL work and NO woman! no more walking on glass, watching what you say, who you say it to, how you say it!.....I'm free!!!!! free at last!

Looking real good!  Like the others have said, keep those updates rolling in.  I think I'll settle for the new 1/48 Hook, but these 1/35 monsters are going to be impressive, to say the least.

Thanks!  I too am waiting for the 1/48 Hook as well.....it will probably be more detailed then the 1/35 Hook anyways....I would like to compare the 1/35 HOOK to the Russian 1/35 helo that Trumpeter released a while back.....If memory serves me right I thought it was fully loaded with all kinds of STUFF?

If Trumpeters 1/35 Hook was indeed the old MRC/Panda 'hand me down' then it looks like thats all they did was a rush job .....just to get it out on the streets :-(

Hi Troy!!

Which Trump 1/35 Russian Helo kit are you refering to??  The Hind,Hip are Hound??  All of them I have BTW and they have light detail too but it is nothing a lil research  skill and  a good detail set can't fix.Wink [;)]

I'm loving my Hook regardless.

I have to agree with Mark. I think unless you are or were a crewchief on the actual subject the quality of this kit is good for what it represents. Remember the Chinook is not a "flashy" ship with neat little missles and fancy gizmo's all over the place. To tell you the truth after spending time flying around in the Ch-47  its pretty  simplistic and boring  inside. Not much to look at, not much real  "detail"  to speak of  if the sound proofing is all intact. Not much to really do or see unless you are watching the CC go down his inflight checks. I guess after waiting for so long for this kit in this scale and taking a look at what I got and having the experiance of being in and around the aircraft for a few years(newer models of course) aside from the tail end not being exactly the correct shape I cant complain. To me its worth the 98.00 I paid. I suppose I could have paid more for a more detailed kit. but why? All you need is some materials, ability and paitence. Isnt that what this hobby is all about?

I'm just saying that I have paid less for more detailed kits.....I don't expect all the wires and cables but this kit lacks even some BASIC and EASY details that could have made this an awesome package, but not even the BENCH seats or basic weapons Sad [:(]

Don't get me wrong....I like the kit and its great to have it in this scale........but for the price and size.....a bit more detail would have been nice.

I didnt notice no bench seats. That is lame. What weapons would you have liked to see? I do agree it lacks some detail. Then again so does the panda kit and look at this beauty put together by HeavyArty!

Thanks for posting the UH-1H Dust-Off I am working on for a customer.  Yup, with enough TLC and elbow grease, you can polish any turd enough to look great.

Gino..That helo is just amazing! Thumbs Up [tup]

Josh,  For weapons on the 1/35 Hook it would have been cool to get at least the basic two door & window guns, mounts, amo cans etc.

Still.....a cool kit to have and the parts fit has been very nice so far.

NOTE:

The brass screens at the top of the rear pylon halves need to be cut into two sections to fit properly. I also had to add some plastic to the upper canopy areas because there was gaps between the glass and the upper cockpit structure.

Hey Troy!!

I see what you are saying and I do agree with you.  For the Scale and the slightly hefty price tag they could have encluded the troop seating and the M60D's especialy sence they have the markings for one of the birds that served in Nam.   Thank goodness for the after market industry Right??

Here she is so far!  All she needs now is some minor seam filler, remove the three 'improper' antenna mounts and next is the landing gear. I removed the three anti collision lamps and the funky FM antenna bump thing on the left side.

The kits screens fit very well and to make it more proper for an A model I filled the foward screen hole on the engine cover. I also filled the antenna holes on the canopy.
