well got started yesterday afternoon on the cockpit and the office is 90% done still need to finish the front IP but I have no clue what the colors for the horizontal gauges (you know the strip gauges on the left side of the gunners IP)

well here are the pics

well I got the crew almost done need to add the left arms for the pilot and the gunner. The third guy will be added to the OH-6A Cayuse as a extra gunner.

hopefully I'll get some more pics up of the cockpit with the crew installed.

well quick update engine ,transmission , and all the assorted linkages are in the paint shop being painted. once done I'll seal them and give them a wash of black acrylic paint and do the exhaust with burnt metal paint metalizer.

good show....keep up the good work.

you may consider selecting a higher quality resolution on your camera...and look into a cheap tri-pod......I really can't make out any details at all....just the color of paints you've used.

Looking good so far. As above though, the pics are a little hard to see. Try taking them against a white background with more light.

I have a couple of these in the stash, so I'll be interested to see how it turns out. What decals are you using, those provided or the Fireball ones?

Keep posting your updates and good luck with your build.

Actually Chris I've been building non Sci-Fi for a while. And I'll be stopping for a couple days since I have to go to Detroit early tommorow morning for a Detroit Tigers game and won't be back till Sunday then I'll be back to building again since I don't have to be back to work till the 21st of May.

BTW does anyone have any pics of the Gunners Instrument panel on the AH-1G the two strip gauges are giving me fits since I don't know what color they were.  And I did stop work on the AH-1G so I can finish work on the left side drive sprocket and tracks on the Escii T-72 (sprocket and tracks are Friulmodel tracks for the T-72)

so did you check out the Cobras with new skin decal set I think that some of the IAF fans would like that set since it also has Israeli Air Force markings.

LOL thats a dryer vent duct the vent pipe is on the water heater.LOL

Funny thing I found out is that since the figures were made for the Academy UH-1 Huey and the Dragon OH-1A Cayuse the legs don't stick out far enough for the AH-1G but that doesn't bother me any. So what did anyone think of the color of the motor mount it is Tamiya Yellow Green which should be a close enough match for the Yellow Zinc Chromate paint used in the actual Cobra engine bays. And here is a tip for those starting the Revell Cobra the gunners station control stick on the starbord side of the cockpit is molded backwards so to mount it the right way you will have to remove the mounting tab so that you can get the control stick to face forward.

well here are some more pics of the cockpit and the engine. It is slow going right now and if you look closely at the pilots you'll see I added scratch built boom mic's.

It's been great watching this all come together. Still looking good. How did you scratch the boom mics, with fuse wire?

Can't wait for further pics.

naw didn't use fuse wire to make the mics I used thin gauge brass rod that looks like wire but holds its shape. the end is a ball of superglue and painted overall black. I just have to figure out how to build the armor plating on the seats.

well I took quite a break from the Cobra cockpit so I can work on some other projects but I did manage to get back to it.

I did another scratch build for the cockpit please behold the armor plates for the seats.

And I finally got some closer pics showing the boom mics on the helmets.

you can also see the mics on the other 2 pics above.

Well I decided to step things up a notch here is the Cobra all taped together so I can see how it looks with the fuselage put together. Now looking at it I am still figuring out how I am going to get the gunners station to lie lower in the fuselage. Any advice would be appreciated on that problem. BTW the only thing glued in is the engine.

After a year the fuselage is finally glued together.

A bit of warning though this bugger is a tail sitter which I fixed with moldable lead weights in the nose of the Cobra.

Hopefully I'll get it painted sometime this week before it gets too cold.

I really do consider myself to be extremly fortunate indeed !!! . I have a lot more spare time to build model aircraft than most of you guy's . Despite being "notorious" for having multiple builds going , I think I average one 1/72 scale Helicopter/ Aircraft kit per week . I certainly realize most modelers would be quite envious for someone to have that much spare time .

Anyway I saw a newer boxing/release of that Revell 1/35 AH-1G Cobra kit at the hobby store last week , it was priced at $76.00 . I nearly fell over when I saw the price ; I very quickly put it back on the shelf .

Earlier this year I picked up two 1/35 Academy AH-1 Cobra's for $30 each . There the only two 1/35 scale helo's in my stash , the bulk of my kit collection are 1/72 and a few 1/48 kits . For the price I thought they were good bargins . I probably won't get around to building them for at least another 4 years . I would hate to think what they would cost in the near future .

Anyway that Revell cobra looks like it's coming along nicely . Best of luck on the rest of the build and I hope you get to finish her in the not to distant future . I never grow tired of looking at my finished model Helicopters and Fighter Jets in the display cabinets . I certainly am one lucky modeler .

                                                    Kind regards John

(I presume you mean the 1/32 kit)

And I nearly just fell out of my computer chair, John!!!
I have found my entire stash of all 10 AH-1Gs on ebay.... the lowest I paid was $8 before shipping; the most may have been $18. Suprising how dead wrong some LHSs can be.

Sorry , I ment to say 1/32 scale . The same Hobby store also had in stock those 1/72 scale Lindberg "snap fit" SH-3 Seaking and HH-3E Jolly Green Giant kits for $29.50 each . [YIKES] . I haven't bought that many kits from them over the years , They do have a good stock of Gunze Sangyo and Tamiya acrylic paints , also a good stock of Squadron Signal referrence books . My last visit I came out of the store with a few jars of paint , a book and some Tamiya white putty . Certainly NO bargins on that day . Even their Mail Order service is expensive , I once recieved a Hasegawa 1/72 AH-1S Cobra kit from them through the post , $14 postage to travell 20 kilometers . The online hobby store in Perth , Western Australia [West Coast] , I live in Sydney [East Coast] only charged me $10 postage for the identical kit ; the distance is approxamtly 5000klm . I sometimes wonder how these hobby stores stay in bussiness .

I appologize for getting off topic...................... John
