UH-1C/E/M Panel Photo needed

  Unfortunately, I don't have great pics of a C model instrument panel, But on a recent visit to the Army Aviation Museum at Ft Rucker I got some nice shots of the cockpit of a B model (specifically serial no. 60-3554).  This bird is not wearing all it's original equipment, but the main instrument panel should be original.

Note:  This cockpit has the old style seats without armor.  Here is a pic from the Dash 10 for the UH-1C dated 1980 and I think you'll find th main console very similar:

If you happened to be building an Echo, you might be interested in the control box in the upper left.  Jon (Cobrahistorian) thinks it ma be for a TAT system. You can clearly see the "Turret Control" on the panel itself.  I just can't figure how a TAT control panel made it's way to an Army museum.  Oh well, others can correct me if I'm wrong on that one.  One thing is for sure, this bird is lacking an intervalometer, which would be present on any Army gunship armed with rockets.

Hey Ray,

Actually those are rather good photos.  I thank you for those.  I'm trying to get something a little clearer on all the dashboard decals and warning/limitation decals. 

  Brought back old memories....I had forgotten about those dirty rotten stinking ashtrays....At least these were clean...rusted, but clean.

If i find anything any more hi-res...I'll post it here.

You need to check and decide exactly what you want to build. Some UH-1E aircraft were UH-1B airframes that the Marines took and named UH-1E. If that's the airframe you're building then the photos above would reflect the instrument panel in that aircraft. If you're building a dedicated UH-1E, the panels are completely wrong. The dedicated UH-1E was built on an adapted UH-1C airframe with metalurgical changes to the airframe. The instrument panels were the same as the TH-1L. The Navy and Marines used different navigational aids and instruments on their helicopters and everything was in duplicate. Not so with the Army. The UH-1E had BDH indicators and radar altimeters, the Army did not.

You are so correct.  You forget about the internal rescue hoist and AC power required for the "navalized" avionics.

We all sorta had this discussion in the UH-1C Rotorhead thread.  Good hi-res photos of a "Period" panel are rare.  Once i get that, I can "change" the limitation placards etc.

I'll let my "project" out of the bag when I get a little farther along.  I think you'll find it interesting.

Also looking for a hi-res diagram of the fuselage structure.  Like this lo-res version?

Thanks for posting the pictures and drawings!  Good stuff! 

I have an UH-1E panel that was rescued from salvage. It has been painted over so the placards are not visible but all the openings are there and I have instruments stuck in the holes. If you want a picture of this as a guide, let me know. I also have the TM showing the structure you illustrated, if you want full size scans I can do that for you.

Yea, we pretty much built a few "virtual" Huey's on line.  Between the "Vets", guys with family members that worked or flew on the Huey we have a "ton" of reference material to share.  Great to see so much interest in the "ole" HU-1.
