A dio in 1/72 scale-Finished pics-Now with a tree!

And here I was thinking another flame war was about to begin...

Nicely done! Which 251 kit is this? How do you like the Preiser figures? How would you compare them to other figures out currently? I really like the tarp covering what I presume to be a rocket reload- nice touch!

Wing Nut you have crossed the line and i'm proud of you. Also you should be very proud of your dio too. The lay-out really looks balanced and has a story to tell.

  This is just great man; the bonus is that it's SO small..... too bad they didn't give you a better axe to grind.

 Time and time again you manage to scale the weathering accurately to the size. With all the detail you can pack into 1/72, I know 1/35 will repeatedly be a treat.

 Don't kick yourself about the figures. I think they look just fine, I mean after all (good grief) they're 1/72 . And yes, 1/35 is easier.

Hi, Marc, the little dio looks great, those little preiser figures are the business, so many fig's in that scale are in action poses, or they were when I as a kid and now they are all buried in the back garden.

 1/72nd you say, Nay say I, for she is all to much detailed for the scale. Trully Marc I thought that it was 1/35th. Fantastic figures!  Your new name should now be "Hawkeye" due to your microscopic talent in brailscale.

As far as telling whether these figs are better than anything else out there... Honestly, I don't know.  I have really only seen these and some of the 1/35 stuff from Dragon.  The detail on these little guys is pretty good and moldings are very crisp.  And they are broken down into heads, torsos, legs and arms so there can be some swapping to get what you are looking for

The ground cover is a recipe from a book model railroad book I picked up at the LHS.  Basically just different color dry leaves from the yard.  I added some of this thin bark that a tree in my front yard sheds every year and some of the fine twigs from the same craft broom that I made the fascine bundle form.   It goes in the blender with water and gets pulverized.  Let it dry and put it through a kitchen strainer.

The tarp is tissue coated with latex caulk thinned with water.

Marc, very nice work! I love to make little 1/72 dios--they fit nicely in a bookcase display case, and are getting easier to find interesting accessories for all the time--when I started modeling all you had were those weird ESCI log-forts, if you remember...?

Anyway, I disgress....if I can add a suggestion? An important element that you've missed has to do with "vertical interest"--that is, add a tree or something to give some vertical element to the dio to balance the breadth of it. It could even be a telephone poll--but a tree or high bush is easier, of course.After all--think of it--you've got this long branch that the guys are using for a seat--where did it come from? And wouldn't there be more around? More trees, or saplings from that tree that has become a bench?

You'll notice right off how it seems to balance the scene even better that you thought.

Good start! I wouldn't mind seeing a little more green on the base too, like some more grass powder for contrast on the brown ground?

Lookin really good!  It really isn't that easy to paint figures in 1/72, I'm not sure about 1/35 though, but I trust everyone else is telling the truth. Prieser sure makes some nice looking figures for 1/72.

Doog, it is good to have your critical eye back where it belongs... in the US of A!  As I was doing the ground cover I was thinking, "Hmmm... where did all these leaves come from?"  Then when I put the log down, "OK so the leaves are explained, but what about this log?"

I know this looks like I did this really quick but I had been thinking about how to modify these branches to look more tree like.  A few of the branches are cut from other and glued on the basic shape.  As long as I was playing with sticks, I gave one of the guys looking at the map a pointer.
