Congratulations on finishing a big and very detailled project like that. Take the time to exhale, look around and then dive into the next one. Everything that you learned and every piece of constructive criticism you received on this build will go towrds making your next dio even better.

First off, congratulations on this beautiful diorama and second, thank you for all the top notch photos!

Every detail, from the footprints in the sand to the war weary helmets, is perfect. I really don't understand how you can keep your concentration focused during such a huge project! The more I look at the pictures, the more detail I find!

Congratulations on this true work of art.

Adam, I'd like to congratulate you on a job well done. The many hours you have spent meticulously rendering all the individual items in your dio have paid off very well. The visual image you had in your mind has now been transformed into 3-D for us all to view and admire in awe. The "Clash" title which was so controvertial at the beginning of your build is now plain to see and justified. Might I say "persistance is the virture of Dio builders" and you have shown it regardless of critism.

Well done! And looking forward to your next project.

Cheers,

Richard

Some folks seem ignorant of the difference between "criticism" with "critque"...

~~Not really clear who you're grumbling at there Hans, though using the word ignorant towards members leaving comments here isn't making you any friends. What's more, there's not such word in the English language as "critque" ---I suppose you meant "critique" ? If so your point is extremely negligable if you're not ignorant of the meaning of critique:

cri·tique  (kr-tk)

n.
1. A critical review or commentary, especially one dealing with works of art or literature.
2. A critical discussion of a specified topic.
3. The art of criticism.

A huge thanks for that Richard !! It's a great pleasure to know you see I've managed to realize  exactly the complex scene I had in mind. I  also appreciate that you've hit on the point that it was difficult to tell what the title's real significance was until seeing the finished work--obviously the very moment of that "clash' has been at the center of a tiny inconsequential debate here--let me say this about that--If I'd wanted to model a more dangerous, aggressive Brit up front--I would have---one reason I didn't was to even the odds some--since I'm portraying the moment right before the fight, I didn't want it to be a foregone conclusion what the outcome would be. I always wonder about some of the decisions of the builder of even some of my favorite Dioramas,, but I don't try and say"Oh I'd do this and that" and I wouldn't remotely think the builder would care if I did.

Anyways Richard, t's a honor to have the respect and interest of another great military Dio builder such as yourself......someone actually doing  great Dio's and posting work that I'm interested in and like....

INDY;  Beautiful work of art.  The level and quantity of detail is awesome.  A museum piece of this quality deserves recognition.  I know the editors of FSM monitor these threads, so my appeal to them is to share this spectacular moment in time with the rest of the modeling world.  Thanks for sharing your work and time with us, it has all been greatly appreciated.  Rick.

Oh, by the way, if I have missed it along the way...  What are your intentions for displaying the Clash?

~~Thank you so much Rick. it's really been my pleasure to bring this long W.I.P. to FSM Forums. As far as the future plans for' Clash'--I'd love to say, but it's better not to at this time. I'll have a nice set of completed photos up this week or next, and show it in it's final presentation state also/

Thanks again.

I agree...

Enough IS enough, if all you got left is to point out typos...

That said, I look forward to your future works, and promise to also keep in mind the fact that you won't take anything but warm fuzzies well, and won't say anything that could possibly be taken as a negative comment,  observation, or criticism...  You've obviously gotten beyond the point where any constructive criticism is needed or warranted, and will keep my "terrible ideas" to  myself an my work...   I  mistakenly pointed out a couple things that are related to the mechanics of dioramas...  I should have known better than to do that, and it was rude of me...

I humbly prostrate myself befoe you, the Master, and beg that you only flog me to within an inch of my life... Bow Down

Hi Adam,

First of all, I apologize for not being more vocal during your construction, but I have followed along, taking notes and watching with interest!      To see your beautiful "natural light" photos of the scene just breaths LIFE into it all; outstanding!

To me, the positioning of each figure and the direction their attention is cast tells the story of the scene that's unfolding; every person doesn't see the same scenereo unfolding because like witnesses to a crime, observations differ but they're all generically alike.     The ONLY first hand eye witness to what's really happening is the one who carefully and skillfully formed each piece of putty, touched EVERY grain of sand, and modeled each article into it's place.      He is the author of this story entitled "Clash in Tunisia", and as such, it is his artistic license that I go with.

I like to paint pictures; a couple years ago an individual challenged me on the shape of two clouds (as if there is a standard shape/texture): they weren't "correct", but to be nice he spoke of them as if they had magically appeared on the canvas with zero input from me!       Everyone's eyes see their own version of correct or right, but the only one's that matter are the eyes of the creator and THAT should be respected.      As I told them: "Why don't you paint a likness of this painting WITHOUT all the mistakes?"     Needless to say, the offer was never accepted!  LOL     The point being, regardless how much time and attention to detail you invest, someone will ALWAYS see something they would have done differently.... fix it to please them, and someone else will say it's still not right.... and on it goes!        Before you know it, you've painted a picture (built a dio) to someone elses specifications and whims; now what fun is that?

Beautiful work, Adam, all the way through!

Thank you Thank you JET ! Yes...you did stick with me through the long haul--you're  a friend, no doubt. I'm really happy if I've passed on some good technique--that's what all the work of writting a detailed, complete blog is all about---It probably added a month to the build , but you gotta give back, ya know?

As far as where it goes... I'll keep it here with me for the time being, I'm exploring some publishing options(I can't really go into now, of course) and possible show entrys(though I'm not really into them). I have a glass sided case

I added an airbrushed backdrop for perpetually blue sky, mostly because this case comes with a mirrored back panel, I may fit glass instead, but it's alot of trouble the way the case is joined. Likely I'll paint the reddish wood to match the texture-black base(like I did for with my 1st Dio), but I thought I'd look at it this way for a little while.

~Andy~  LOL very good picture Buddy--very funny too---yup, the long sought after goal, huh Big Smile

~Richard~ Thanks my friend---yeah, it was always meant to be a scene out in the bright sun. Everthing I did, I did with that in mind, so alot of frequent color checks outside were needed, and I always planned for outdoor pictures. As you know that is the strongest, harshest light possible, so potential for something looking poor is pretty great, if somethings not finished right. I like the look,I got. Interestingly no over-all dullcote was used on the finished scene, although some elements got several applications, like most of the figures.
