Jeff,
Can't wait to see the Air Museum. Our club actually replicated the entire aircraft collection at the Hill AFB Museum in 1/144th scale. They created mockups of their buildings and actually use our kits to figure out where to put the real ones. Was a fun project.
I always wanted to do a large dio of an airshow with all the different types of planes on the ramp. The crowd checking it out, maybe some armor laying around. Was going to try this in 72nd but would be a little large. Maybe 350th would work. Have you seen a C-5, AWACS, C-130, C-17 or KC-10 in this scale?

Phil,

There's no larger aircraft in 1/350th that I know of, the largest I'm aware of are a Boeing Clipper, a PBM Mariner, and a PBY from Iron Shipwrights in resin.

White Ensign does a bunch of resin planes and helos, and Corsair Armada is releasing alot of new planes from the 50s and 60s, stuff that should be included in the Tamiya or Trumpeter kits, but isn't, and real late war/post war stuff if you wanted to do a pre-SCB Essex from the early 50s.

My brain has been trying to plan out how this would look, and I'm obviously running into problems finding 'standard' museum aircraft, like a Spitfire, P-51, B-17, P-38, etc...in 1/350...obviously, I could do a great naval air museum, with all the Trumpeter and Tamiya stuff...at this point, I'm probably going to scratchbuild everything that I don't have access to...which at this point, includes...

US: B-17, C-47, P-38, P-5, P-47, AT-6, PT-17, Huey
RAF: Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Wellington, Halifax
Luftwaffe: Fw-190, Bf-109, He-111, Me-262, He-162, Do-335
Japan: Zero, Tony, Frank, Tojo, Jill, Judy, Mavis, Emily
Russia: Yak-1, Mig-3, La-5, Yak-7, Yak-9, Pe-2

So far, here's what I know exists...

US: Corsair, Hellcat, Wildcat, Helldiver, Dauntless, Avenger, Devastator, AD-1 Skyraider, AD-5 Skyradier, Kingfisher, Seagull, F3B, F6C, O3U, F9F Panther, A-4 Scooter, A-5 Vigilante, F-4 Phantom, F-14, F-18, S-3, E2C, A3D, A6, A7, F8, S3B, CH-47, CH-53, H-34, CH-46, Boeing 314 Clipper, PBY, Martin Mariner, B-25, SH-3.

Japan: Betty, Nell, Pete, Norm. If we see an IJN carrier from Trumpeter, then we can expect a Zero, Val, and Kate...

Germany: Ar-196

UK: Walrus, Gazelle, Merlin, Sea Vixen, Scimitar, Sea Hawk, Fulmar, Gannet, Lynx, Swordfish, Albacore, Seasprite.

Russia: Flanker, Fulcrum, Freestyle, Helix

I've been seriously thinking about doing this in 1/700 scale, simply because there's more aircraft out there, but at that scale, it's too small to do any serious detailing...1/144 is ok too, but then it gets too large...so, there's the all the tradeoffs...

Jeff,
That is quite a list. You must be into ship modelsBig Smile [:D]

I agree, more variety in 700th (even a C-5) but too small for any detail.
Here are a few shots of the 1/144th Hill AFB Museum

That's super cool Phil...If I only had the space for 1/144!! I'm figuring the whole thing can be 2x2 and still be huge in 1/350th...oh, I don't know...maybe I should just settle and do a naval air museum instead...This way, I can add a couple of ships tied up alongside the building (in the water of course).

Jeff,
Even Naval museums have some of those AF planes Smile [:)]

Maybe, you can start with the Naval Aviation side of the Museum and see if the Industry catches up. Or a 2 part dio with the Naval section as part one and add the others later if they become available or you get them scratchbuilt.
Either way, if it is as good as this first one, it will be cool.
Don't forget the baby strollers...
