Israel in Iraq ?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 3:32 AM
I know Israel never attacked Iraq during Desert Storm 1991, But at the time everyone was building U.S. tanks in Iraq. I wanted to do something different. So I built up this dio and called it "Israel Strikes Back", a kind of what if. Plus it gave me a chance to blow up a tank, well you see what I mean. Anyway this dio is over 10 years old and boy I wish I knew then what I know now. So please keep that in mind I can do alittle better work now, promise. And yes I need to take some newer pics of the dio, I just need to do some touching up. Enjoy.

Gotta be one of the hardest and most challenging subjects to do, blow up a vehicle!
Skar, this is cool,I`ve been eyeballin your wreck pic in your sig and everytime I look at it I say to myself, man this is way too cool!! Can`t bring myself to damage a tank as yet,but it`ll come. Very nice indeed!

sasd,

Mig productions produces a blown out Panzer in resin. All the fun with out the worry of trashing a new kit. It comes trashed.

Thanks guys for all the really kind comments. The T-62 was the really nice Tamiya kit. You cant see it from these pics but I scratch built an engine and put a red light in the compartment. This would give it a cool red glow inside the engine area, but the battery has run down...Anyway I plan to pop the T-62s lid off and put in another battery and touch up the dio. BTW I add some more pics of the layout to give yall a better idea of the layout.
And again thanks Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]

Hi yw18mc, and thanks. I have a couple of F-101 voodoo's I'm building for my dad, 444th FIS, one in metal and the other in that ugly grey color. But once those are done it's back to the dio's.

Not knowing then what you know now seems to have not made you any worse a modeler then, as the dio is quite good and balanced. I like it very much.
Good job!

Skar, you're a hell of alot better than me at doing the damage, I really wanna do one, and like Russ says, it's hard to achieve that look. Yah, Mig has a wrecked T55 kit out I believe, and a wrecked T34?
You've done an awesome job here, and if this dio's ten years old, and you've got better, I'm in awe! Outstanding work!

Skar,

Wow, VERY nice! I saw some footage of one of the new Javelin missiles take out a T-72 during trials. Other than the turret ending up in the next county (it was a direct hit to the turret ring) the results looked EXACTLY like your diorama! VERY cool!

Thanks guys, Cobra your right. The pics I used, I borrowed from a friend that was attached to a unit in the first Gulf War. Most of the Iraqi armor that had noticable damage also had there turret blown off. I really didnt want to model the inside of the tank....So I when with the engine hit. The only part that really got the fire was the turret and that was an early test.(or mistake...) What I ended up doing was cut off the area to be damaged, and replace it with a heavy duty foil. Then all I had to do was shape it to my liking. The burnt paint job was done in layers. Light coats first and the closer I got to the damage the darker the paint got.
BTW, the tall building at the end of the street was modeled after the real deal. The real building was being used by the Iraqi troops, and ended up receiving some gifts from the Marine's.

Further to our emails Skarpotchi, here is an image I found (a model, but not mine), which has the correct lettering. It seems to be similiar to the lettering you wanted for the Merkava. The backwards 3 is actually a 3 backwards, whilst the 'N' is actually a letter Aleph. The best way to show you is via an image, hence the image!
