the last offensive -1/72 dio

Hey guys, finished my latest dio. Named it the last offensive. Its The failed rescue attempt to rescue berlin and create a passage of escape. DML Jagdtiger with italeri figs and the kettenkrad is academy.
Personnaly I do not care to much for it, mainly the building, its ugly and unrealistic. But the It ironically (for me) got a first place in the dio catagory at a local IPMS contest. Without further adue.....

Reb. I was and never will be a fan of 1/72nd scale. No offense but this dio explains why! LOL soo much of a lack of detail it's really hard to get a feel for realism. Dude, you did a great job with what you could do! Congrats with the award!

ss panzer, wasnt too hard to make, I just wish I would have tried harder too make it look more real. First I made a styrofoam building with windows cut out, then covered it with plaster and then painted. finally I added a balsa and wood floor.
thanks for the comment about the figs! I painted them in one night as a rush to complete the dio. I think they could be a little better, but this scale is hard.

james, I have to disagree with you. I have seen Lots of 1/72 stuff that easily puts some 1/35 stuff to shame.

Any work in ANY scale can be realistic if the modeler has the skills and works hard to achieve such realism. In the same way, any work in ANY scale can be so unrealistic when the modeler does not have the skills or does not work towards realism.

Couldn't agree more !! Did you see the 1/72 Abrams in the last FSM ? it had a complete scratchbuild interior !! You did a great Job on the Jagdtiger rebelreenactor.

I am able to show several 1/35 models that demonstrate that larger is not always better Big Smile [:D]

Working in 1/72 might make it harder for people to see all of the mistakes I make...

Pretty nice little dio. I'm not a fan of 1/72, but that's because the scale is too small for me to work on. I have a lot of respect for those that have the patience to turn out something like this in such a small scale.

I like the 1/72 scale myself. They do not take alot of room and do not cost much.
Biger the scale more work and more cost. Your dio looks great. The building is not
realistic. For me it is the windows they look 2 round. Just an idea add some glass
to the pane of the window and on the ground. A little colour on the building may help.
This is only an idea. One thing about dioramas you can change them any time.
Since you won you may not want to change it.

djw1, I couldnt agree more. Wasnt very please when I put the plaster on the styrofoam. For som reason I couldn't get it to smooth out. I could have spent a lot more time into this one but I guess I just wanted a quickie Wink [;)]

Hopefully i spend more time on my next one.

John, congrats on the award and I think it looks fine for a quick build. Love the Ketterand, I just picked up the Academy ground vehicle set the other day and I'm looking forward to it.

One suggestion would be to use modelling clay or plastercine rather than actual plaster to cover the buildings. I've never done it myself but you can roll it out into thin sheets, lay it on top of your styrofoam and then work with the texture and shape much easier than with plaster. My 2 cents [2c]

Congrats on the award rebelreenactor! I'm working in 1/35 scale at the moment, but I'm slowly gathering the components for an idea I have for a 1/72 scale dio whose size would be too large for me to put together in anything greater.

Great job, Rebel! I've always felt that models should be small-not like 1/24scale aircraft-kinda like Faberge pieces. You did a great job, won an award and have plenty of shelf space left.

Lack of detail in 1/72 huh, impressed with the 72nd M1 with interior, well who says there is no detail in small scales.

Thats a complete interior in a 1/144 scale Tiger. Some pretty good detail in small scale if you ask me.
