Fine Molds 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-10 "Perry"...Off the Bench (Pics)
Posted by rjkplasticmod on Friday, October 10, 2008 2:15 PM

I don't build many Bipes, but when I saw this kit on a vendor table at the IPMS Region IV show back in April, I bought it on impulse.  Decided to give it a go.

The Perry was Japan's last bi-plane fighter & saw combat service in China, 1937-1938.  The kit is very nicely molded, has adequate detail & mostly good engineering, with a only a couple of quirks to trap the unwary.

The model was built basically OOB, with only the seat belts molded on the seat cushion removed & repaced with generic IJA PE seat belts from Eduard.

Model was painted with ModelMaster enamels, mixed to more closely match the early IJA colors.  Decals came from the kit.  Weathering was done with oil washes & Tamiya weathering pigments.  I usually don't weather my aircraft very much, but decided to beat this one up to more closely match the few reference pics & to depict the rather primitive conditions these aircraft operated from in China.  Rigging was done with .006" steel guitar string wire but the antennae is stretched sprue.  Can't swear to the accuracy of the rigging as the kit does not provide a guide & I couldn't find reliable reference pics.  Used the Box Art as a guide which is always a crap shoot.

Thanks for looking.  Comments/questions welcome.

Regards,  Rick

Rick,

you've done a lovely job there.Thumbs Up [tup] The Perry is not an aircraft that I've seen before, very interesting history and subject.

I think the rigging and finish look top-notch!

good work I suppose, but he rigging is way out of scale, I can see brush marks in the paint and the weathering is overdone.

Just kidding I think it looks Great! Nice colors to.Wink [;)]

Neat-O!

It's a visual feast! It looks similar to my favorite biplane, the Fiat CR-32.

When I saw the plane was weathered I figured that since I do so much armor now, dirt is just burned into my retines and I just see weathering on everything.  Then I realized it really was weathered.  THEN I realized who posted this build.

WHO ARE AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH RICK? All right boys, let's set up the search pattern and find 'im.

Rick, I really like this build. I like all oyur work but this one is striking. About as far from the everyday subject matter as you can get...very cool camo... and yes... even ... weathering.Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Super job on that one, Rick. Biplanes are a work of art in my opinion and you have done that one justice. Captain [4:-)]

Thanks for all the kind words Guys, much appreciated.  It was a fun build & not too challenging as Bipes go.  The camo was tricky, but Handi-Tac came in Handi Smile [:)].

Rick,

Very nice work on the bipe fighter.  The paint job is very unusual, but well done.  Your work sets the standard for the rest of us to emulate.

Not sure how I missed this one.....that's an outstanding build, Rick! ....and for someone who doesn't weather their models all that much, I'd say you haven't lost your touch in that department either. Thanks for sharing! Thumbs Up [tup]
