Well, out of the "magnificant 7," the P-51D definitely tops the charts. They didn't get their final kill until the '60s, 20 years after it was born. And there are not too many planes that will fly a few feet off the deck at over 300 kts. One awesome plane.

Well, it can't be a plane that isn't a fighter or at least a combat plane. Right away that rules out all the civil types. The P-51 is a prop job, so that's out. Not enough rocket ship testosterone with that bird. My vote among the remaining would be the F-14 Tomcat, which which came to the top of my list before I read the finalists. Second would be the SR-71. It looks good, but is just to big, and only takes pictures.

I hate to say this because I'm a fighter fan, but something about the BAC TSR.2 strikes a note with me. Pity they got cold feet and dropped the project. Best regards Woody

Hi Dominique ! Quite an interesting question.

The sexiest plane ever ... the Concorde is almost my choice, it's a much well-liked plane by us Brazilians who had the privilege of watching it landing on the inauguration flight to Rio de Janeiro. It graced Rio International Airport for many years.

But I think a sexy plane is a curvy one ... so the Lockheed Constellation is my choice. It's as sexy as a prop plane can be.

Thanks for this opportunity. Nelson

I will try to define by category:

WW1 - Bristol monoplane fighter ( can't recall designation right now ! )
Between wars - P-26 Peashooter
WW2 - XP-47J Thunderbolt
Korea - F-86F Sabre
50's/60's - F-104 Starfighter
Viet Nam - F4E Phantom
Present day - F-15 Eagle
Conmercial : tie between Constellation and Republic Rainbow
"private" aircraft : tie between Stolp Starduster and Pitts Special

I can think of many more that could be listed, but I have tried to keep this short !

Most of us are acquainted with at least one "know-it-all". He may be as close as the mirror. [}:)]

The British contingent must be sleeping- The Hunter, the Bucc, the Vulcan, the Victor, the Lightning, the Swift, the Harrier (Royal Navy version), the Shack, the Nimrod, and best of all- Griffon-engined Spits (unless they have the bubble canopy- just doesn't look right with a bubble canopy). All of the nominations have merit- design beauty is in the eye of the beholder. D. Blackwell, MMC(SS), USN, Retired (two years in Scotland makes one a fan of the English airplane)

In my opinion the sexiest has to be the Me262. The forefather of the swept wing fighters. Look at it from any angle.... it oozes sex appeal !!

I'd say the F7F-3 Tigercat. Not the blunt-nosed "N" radar version, but the sleek, nose-gun version. The Spitfire ranks a close second, Merlin or Griffon-engined, it doesn't matter. They're both beautiful and sexy even when sitting on the ground.

How about the Macchi-Castoli MC 72? Sleek 1930's racing float plane. 2850hp engine, twin contra-rotating props, and it hit 440 mph in 1933.

Take a look here...

To me, a plane that looks as good on the ground as on the air qulifies. Therefore, it's of course the Concorde.

Others include: Caravelle, Supper Connie, Spitfire, Mosquito, B-17G, Mirage F-1C, Raphale.

Well, it's got to have a fan on the front... I'd say the highback Griffon Spits- anything that has to take off with partial throttle to stay upright is thoroughly over the top!

Wow! Twenty-one people so far have posted their very first message to this topic--I'll be number 22. Prop: Love the WW2 fighters, including the P-51. Jet: The F-104 looks awesome even on the ground, with a cat-like stance, ready to pounce--like the landing gear can hardly contain its forward motion!
