Avro Lancaster colours???
Posted by el_jere on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 7:10 AM

Hi there guys! I need some information about the colours of Lancaster´s camo in the RAF during WWII, I have the revell kit and those guys don´t give you a FS or a name colours or something simple, the instructions says mix 2.12% of this, 64.785% of that 31.6542% of that and so... LOL

Can you guys give me some colours names, F.S. and if it´s possible some paits options on Model Master, or Humbrols paint range???

Thanks!

Jeremias

Hi Jeremias,

The underside is coal black Humbrol 85 this is a satin colour but will need a gloss coat where the decals go then a clear matt coat, Also use H85 for the fins.

The cameo' upper surface is Humbrol 116 dark green and the brown is Humbrol 29 dark earth, both of these are also matt and will require a gloss coat before any decals are put on, then a clear matt coat over the colours.

Don't use Humbrol 30 matt green its the wrong shade Banged Head [banghead]

regards.

Modelmaster has these colors:

Dark Earth (TS 2054)

Dark Green (TS 2060)

Black (Take your pick)

If you can get them, the Xtracolor paints are very nice and (IMHO) they airbrush pretty well.

I mistakenly painted my first Lancaster (dam buster) in Tamiya British Green along with the correct dark earth and matt black. The green is very shiny and does not look right. I found the Tamiya RAF green which is the correct color and it looks much better on my other British planes. Looks I'll be getting another Lanc as if I needed a excuse. The Lancater version that carried the grand slam bomb is to be painted medium sea gray and RAF green, I have that plane but have yet to build it.  I'm talking of rattle cans by the way as I do not own an airbrush.

Yep, Tamiya TS-9 British Green is an automotive colour and is gloss. Think of the old classic British cars - eg, Jaguars and Bentleys in green - it's that colour.

As Phil says, TS-9 is British Racing Green, a classic British car colour (one of my Minis is in this colour).

Another Airfix. When I get a Tamiya Lanc I'm going 1/48th and that has got to be one impressive model. Space is not plentiful for me so so far I've kept bombers at the 1/72 level.
