Mirage is DONE!
Posted by Silverback on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:37 PM

Heller 1/48 Mirage III B,  done up as the first two-seat Mirage of No. 2 (Flying Cheetah) Squadron , SAAF, Waterkloof, South Africa 1963.

NMF via Talon aluminum acrylic with some panels picked out in SnJ polishing powder and oil wash.  Red areas hand masked and painted with Tamiya TS-8.  Except for markings, a ton of shims and lotsa bad words, its totally OOB.

Phil - who's had enough practice bleeding for a while.

Nicely done!  Sounds like she put up a good fight for you, but the hard work most definately paid off.  I am unsure the nationality of the markings, could you tell me what they are?

Yes Fly57 I'm with you, until a few years ago I wouldn't even look at at two seater. Then one day I was looking at a F-100F and said to ones self " thats a nice looking plane". Then it was "you know that SU-27 UB looks pretty good too. And how can you not love the TF-104? Mirage 2000B and N, looks good! F-16D and F/A-18D, and F. And it became clear I was a two seater lover and had been outed.

Excellent work on my favourite looking Delta. The NMF looks great and as Jeremias said, made even the better for being the old Heller kit.

I thought I'd seen this Mirage before, so I went back and looked through my book on the Mirage...here's what it says:

"Mirage IIIBZ from No. 2 Squadron, South African Air Force (SAAF), Waterkloof, South Africa, 1963. N°816 was the first of the three Mirage IIIBZs bought by the SAAF which was also equipped with IIIBZ and IIID2Z two-seaters, the survivors of which went into the creation of the Cheetah D. The shiny decoration was identical to that of the Mirage single-seaters of the same period."

The next colored palette (is that what you call them?) is of the same aircraft only in a camo scheme that was adopted at the beginning of the 70's.

Just some information I thought people might wanna know, I think it's cool...and good job on your Mirage once again.
