1/72 PBY Catalina just out of the oven
Posted by el_jere on Saturday, July 11, 2009 2:29 PM

Hi there guys!

After a wile without finishing anything I have just complete the 1/72 Academy´s Catalina.

The model have a poor interior, and I decided to add some more detail so I got the Eduard PE set, but I realize that the large blister windows are great to show the interior, so inpired by the awesome Jorge Wolf´s Catalina (of course mine is anywere near that model... lol) I try to add some sctach building details.

The Model is painted in Armada Argentina (Argentinian navy) colours used in the Antartic campaings in the´50....

As usually I still have to add some more details and correcting and cleaing others thins, but it´s almost done.

hope you like it and as usual any comments or critics will be wellcome.

Best regards to all

Jeremias

That looks very good. Its too bad manufacturers don't inject one side of the fuslage in clear so a person could leave areas, or the whole side, clear for viewing the internal work. Magoo

Jeremiahs thats a great model. I like the faded look, and it sure looks the part of a '50s arctic (antarctic?) plane. That guy on the crapper is funny.

One point- the nose gear doors on -5As kind of translated up the side of the hull, but stayed flat to it, rather than swing down. Take a look at these pics.

Beautiful model, amigo.

Bondo: yes is the Antartic LOL my head was thinking (early) in Santa and the bunch of models for this christmas lol.

you know I forgot to tell but the Argentinian Catalinas were the first aircrafts in unite the continent with the antartic.

thanks so much for the info on the landing gear doors, I din´t notice that, but lucky me are easy to fix.

Regards!

Hi there Jere,
Finally got a chance to get in here and see the finished PBY.
You certainly continued the brilliant work from earlier my friend. The interior details you have added really are excellent Jere, you just have to tell us how you did the mini toilet roll LOL
I think this is probably the best looker you have done so far, a terrific colour scheme and a marvelously worked mix of weathered paint and metallics Jere. I know how modest you are about your abilities, but I think you have great skill my friend, and I look forward to the next little gem that will pop out of the oven there Smile [:)]
Well done my friend,
All the best,
Mick.

lol Big Smile [:D] the picture is just from a 1951 exercise.. This Catalina 2-P-6 was the only one in Argentinian navy (and for the pictures I saw so far maybe in the world)with such splendid shark mouth... I have the decals to make this version,I only need a kit now... LOL

I almost forgot, this palne was used for RATO test by the Armada, when the plane still wa in Canada

regards!

Nice info amigo. Hey here's a thought. I'm building a PB4Y and a PBM5 for the war in the Pacific GB. You Argies are screwed, LOL, but I'd like to invite you to join the build because you have a flavor for the unusual. Think about subject matter.

Thanks a lot for the invitation Bill! but I haven´t another PBY kit, I was thinking to build the shark mouth scheme but in the future...

I will recive a 1/48 Grumman goose the next month... maybe I can build one of those, but it will be in an Argentinian antartic scheme. any country used the goose in the pacific teather?
