Lavochkin La-7 finished....back in November!
Posted by Wulf on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 9:18 AM

I finished this kit back in November but never took pics and posted. This is Eduards weekend edition kit. Built OOB with no frills. I tried the color modulation technique on this one. I primed with a dark brown and applied thin, lighter coats on top. Came out pretty well with a hint of the 'dirt' showing thru in areas. The only complaint about this kit is the fuselage/wing joint. Not a good fit and requires some manipulation and clamping. Comments welcomed...

That looks great! Love the paint. It has a look that's worn and faded that looks real that I've never been able to pull off. I'd be interested to know more about the technique.

I picked this kit up at the IPMS Nationals this summer. I think I'll build it like you did, no frills! Yours looks great, could you explain "color modulation" a bit more? This seems like a really effective technique!

It's a great kit and you've done a beautiful job on her! Now go chew up some Bf-109s!

Looks wonderful!  Those Russkie birds from World War 2 are pretty cool looking in a spartan sort of way!

Bravo Wulf!!

Your model looks fantastic.  Great work on the finish; your technique worked brilliantly.

hkshooter and RadMax8,

The color modulation method is explained in the Sept. 2009 issue, pg. 26. They show it on a tank but the method can translate to a/c as well. It's nothing difficult. It just takes a little forethought.

Nice work on the La-7.  The finish is superb.

Nice build Andy.  Don't see too many Lavochkins around here.
