Hasegawa 1/32 F-86F 40 Sabre kit # 08060

Hi all,

I bought this kit this week at a flea market for $10.00.  Markings are for J.A.S.D.F. mid 1950's. Can this kit be back-dated a few years to a USAF Korean War bird. Also, what is the overall quality of this kit?

I just acquired the same kit recently after I had started building a Kinetic 1:32  F-86F-40. The Hasegawa is a nice kit to build, ( did a build 30 years ago) though most panel lines and all rivet details are raised. I had no problems with the fit. This kit has an extended wing, which was termed as 6'3' , meaning it has an extended wing, and also has the leading edge slats.  These were the modifications made, if I remember right, around 1954 and onwards and were mostly 'exported' to allied countries, like Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, etc. The Korean Sabre has shorter wings, minus the 6'3'. I have to look for that link in my files  where a more accurate description of different Sabres is mentioned.

I think the quality of this kit is quite good, and at $10 it's such a bargain. Normal price is around $40 here. I had one built in 2001, it came with Royal Thai Air Force markings:

Last year I got another one with Japanese markings, it's still in the box. I think I'll find local-made decals to build into another RTAF's F-86 F40

The major difference between this kit and a Korean war bird is the wing.  You would have to modify the kit wing to backdate it.

Model Maniac:  How did you shade the raised panel lines and rivets?
